@hikariluan-0 I saw that comment, and it was totally out of line. If you've got a problem with another comment then I suggest you report it to the mods rather than fire thinly-veiled accusations at other members. In fact, that exactly what I did, asking the mods to have a look at the thread and step in if they felt it necessary. Apparently they decided it was necessary,

    • RE: Misleading Torrent

@jujulette Every time somebody uploads a file and changes its name to something cryptic it utterly fucks all of us. People end up downloading things again and again believing them to be new material when in reality it's usually just an altered title or filename. It hurts ratios, takes up valuable storage space, makes things impossible to catalogue and worst of all these files propagate across multiple trackers to the point where the "real" file gets lost in the sands of time.

I'm in the process of tidying up my library, and in the last 2 days alone I've recovered over 300Gb of space across multiple drives where I've been able to identify identical files with misleading names. Some of them I've had 5 or more copies of them, all downloaded from different sites over the years.

Yes, it's annoying when files get DMCA hits, but I'd rather see a few of those disappear than end up with terabytes of rubbish. As @tnar said, if nobody can find it then what's the point of it staying here?

    • RE: Banned from uploading for 90 days.

@duncanlem AKAIK they don't, but when a DMCA notice is received the site operators are probably required to take some sort of action against the individual that uploaded the file. This can happen in the background without ever divulging the member's details to the copyright owner. Perhaps it's a deal struck with the industry that stop them from bringing all they have against the site as a whole, but speculation is just pointless.

Once again, I'd say that the reason things happen the way they do is probably because they have to happen that way. Asking questions here yields no meaningful answers, and I assume that is also because it has to be that way. I'd suggest that we all just accept it and not try to delve too deep into something that is presumably there to protect both the site and its members.

@OKCancel said in Using Thumbnail maker for large torrents:

so long as individual frames are not too small. 😃

This x1000!!!! So many people create thumbnails that are tiny and/or have stupid orientations. When I've made them in the past I tend to prefer 6 tiles wide by 5 vertically, with an individual tile width of 300px. For a full length film you'll get a frame roughly every 5 minutes that large enough to see properly.

Also, please don't start copying some users here who simply upload a screengrab of their Windows folder. Yeah, it shows you the filenames and a small thumbnail for each one, but more often than not it's of no help whatsoever.

An an example, compare this: https://www.gaytor.rent/details.php?id=de2fba89f5e75b5331aab4170a5875fbc54131c11dcf7d9d

    • RE: Problem uploading?

Looking at the search page with all categories selected there appear to have been only 2 successful additions to the site in the last 18 hours. I would surmise that something on the site has broken. I've messaged to helpdesk to ask if they're aware of any issues, but it could take a while to get a reply. You'll have to hold your horses for a while I'm afriad.

    • RE: FYI about Uploading

@davis94 This is a subject that has reared it's head several times in the forum in the past, and I have to agree that there does seem to be a lack of information for uploaders in the rules and FAQ. Ihave left comments in the past asking for mods to provide links the section of the rules that warns users of this possibility but have never had a reply.

I'm not an uploader and as such haven't fallen found of this myself, but it seems genuinely unfair to receive multiple bans in this manner. If someone is banned for something they upload this year and then get a second ban for something from 5 years ago I think that's excessive. A second ban for new uploads would still be fair as it could be said the user hasn't learned their lesson. It's not unlike getting written up at work for a mistake, and then getting written up again for making the same mistake years ago when being trained.

The very fact that you got a second strike mere days after your first ban was up does seem suspiciously coincidental though. It's almost as if the person making the DMCA claim was deliberately waiting to issue the next strike, but that's the kind of paranoid thinking probably best left to the P&D forums.

Sadly I don't see things changing anytime soon. DMCA seems like a bit of tightrope to walk, and I rather suspect that the lack of truly open discussion and accessible information pertaining to it's enforcement on the site is intended to protect the site from legal troubles. If so then I'd have to reluctantly support the decision, but it still results in bans for unlucky users which detracts from the site as a whole. Either way you put a target on your back when you upload.

As for deleting your own torrents I don't know if that would be a good thing to allow or not. I could see it being abused. However, you might be able to get the helpdesk to delete them for you, especially if you can show that certain creators are targeting their content. I'd even go so far as to suggest that when you receive a ban notification it could include a list of your past uploads and ask you if you'd like any or all of them removed to avoid further problems.

    • RE: Other private trackers?

@lololulu19 So many unconnected and disjointed thoughts in one post. I think you've also followed a couple of red herrings, but I'll try to stick to the main point.

Porn, in and of itself, is not obscene, at least not globally. If a court in Texas or Utah was to find that porn was obscene it would not have any effect on its standing in other countries. My understanding is that such a ruling would not even need to be recognised by other states. It's not unlike the situation surrounding marijuana in the US.

Given your numerous references to the US I think you've perhaps focussed your impressions around that and not fully appreciated the issue as viewed in other countries. Though something may be considered obscene somewhere that has very little bearing on whether or not it is able to be copyrighted.

You say that selling porn on the internet is illegal. Where exactly? Does that include The UK? Czech Republic? Netherlands? Germany? Brazil? How are all the porn studios, for instance in California, getting away with it if they're such an outrage to decency? I'm happy to read any citations you can provide to support that argument as it pertains to international copyright, and concede your point if they back up your assertions.

Your point about background music is certainly a valid one, at least here in the UK. I worked in a restaurant that got fined because we had a radio playing in the kitchen that could be heard by people on the phone. A bit petty, I think, but not something you can argue against. The police playing loud music is a new one on me, but that may be a US thing.

In fairness, I can see how you may have some to your conclusions about porn copyright, as I did do a quick Google search and found that the first 20 pages of results all seemed to be from US law firms and media. I read a few articles and the general consensus seems to be that nobody knows is its protected or not. It appears that the US courts at least are unprepared to come to a decision, and as such simply dismiss most cases, usually because the sheer number of cases would threaten to overwhelm the judicial system.

The point is that different countries, and indeed regions within some countries, have differing views on what is obscene as well as how respectful they are of copyrights. In Saudi Arabia all porn sites are apparently banned. China has acquired something of a reputation for ignoring copyrights and patents, at least when they are owned in other countries. None of these these things detract from the fact that the creator of a work, be that written, painted, filmed, played, or anything else which matches the definition, may have that work copyrighted. The only difference is how a particular legal system deals with a claim.

EDIT: Having re-read the original post in this topic, I think we've all gone off on red herrings. I believe @benignlulz was asking about non-porn trackers for TV shows and the like. I also believe his question was directed more to the idea that his ISP might find his internet activity suspicious and investigate, which I completely understand.
