If you were to ask "Does anyone know where I can find a video named "buried in a box?" then that would be allowed as you are simply asking for information.

You don't necessarily need to unlink and relink. As long as you're logged in you can just regenerate your recovery codes.

Look, I appreciate that in general a community that doesn't grow will fizzle out instead. However, the recent events regarding GayArea show just how careful we need to be. If we're to hand out invitations willy-nilly, especially on such an open forum as Reddit, then we would be asking for trouble.

I'm all for growth, but there needs to be some sort of gatekeeping going on. The current limited invite system pushes members to be choosy about who they use their invitations on, hopefully reserving them for friends and/or people they know will behave. I'd actually welcome a system where members face sanctions if they invite people who rapidly become disruptive and troublesome. Apply that idea in conjunction with essentially offering open signups from Reddit and the mod's workload would double and our membership would halve.

I just think the costs would outweigh the benefits. If we want more people here then let them come direct from other torrent sites where they can demonstrate good behaviour and a good ratio.

@willingmouth The only time I've been particularly annoyed by the actual selection of pics is when they don't represent the full cross-section of the upload, such as only having a few pics of high-quality video when 95% of the files look lilke they were filmed on a 1st-gen camera phone, or only showing a few fit and toned guys and then having to sift through hundreds of videos of bears and granddads.

The long and short of it is that whatever you include should accurately represent the majority of the content. If people bitch about not having thumbs for evey file then that's annoying, but if they're just saying they wish they were included then that's something else. It's all about the tone of the message, and it's worth remembering that the tone of a written comment can be misunderstood.

@Dracula975 I reported it over at gt.n and got a reply saying the account has been banned without me even explaining why I reported it, so they certainly know the pattern for this one. Since this site is invite-only I'd certainly support a decision to ban not only the perpetrator but whoever invited them too if it ends up here again.

I regularly remind people of the rules when a torrent listing contains no images (or images which are simply publicity pics of the performers.) People should be able to make an informed choice about what type of content they are downloading.

If, however you mean images contained within the upload then that's another matter. I never look through the previews as I rely on the listing pics, but I do believe that when a torrent is quite large and contains dozens or even hundreds of videos then "best practice" is to include a folder with comprehensive previews. The thing is that making them is not a labour-intensive operation. Thumbnail makers nearly always have the ability to batch-process files so that can just run in the background or while people are away from the computer, and the filename structure usually matches that of the original video, so no renaming required. The size of collections has grown to the point where it really does restrict those who struggle to keep their ratios up.

@Lancej Pretty much, yeah. If you originally selected files to not download the torrent would still have moved into your seeding area once those were done. You would be seeding just those files, so in effect you ARE seeding, but you're not a "seeder" as sites like this define the term. After all, you're still seeding files even if you're still downloading them as long as they are generating upload traffic too.

@Lancej Add the torrent to your client as you would if you were going to reseed the full thing, but before you start it go in and select the files you're not going to seed and select the option to not download them. Varies by client, but in BiglyBT it's under the Priority heading in the right-click menu.
