@Aerethiel It is supposed to prevent that kind of thing in theory, but the big players to the market in Canada (Bell, Rogers, Telus, and Videotron) all have such DPI systems, which absolutely CAN and DO decrypt. Until Bill C-9 passed just recently, this practice was highly illegal, but since the passing of that bill, it has become the "standard" practice. There are other countries like Turkey that come to mind that have the same kind of DPI system. I don't know if their systems can read the actual traffic though to tell what kind it is, or if they can see the actual content as well, but I know in Canada (and likely also the USA), the big player providers (and by extension, the government) can not only see what kind of traffic is being transmitted, but they can also see the content of the traffic too. This means that for anyone who has smart home gadgets or appliances that connect to their home network, the government absolutely DOES know what you have, what you've got things set to, when you're home or not home, and so much more, as they read all the data from such gadgets to keep track of the people. It's actually kind of scary. Sadly even in Canada, especially with the recent passing of Bill C-9, a VPN doesn't help... It will keep other people on the internet from seeing what you're up to, or even seeing where and who you really are, but it absolutely will NOT stop the government from prying into your business.

@cp2000 there is an app on the mac app store called muxy that lets you combine videos and export them as an mp4, so you can take your faves and combine them and then watch them easily all together anytime. It is so you don't have to spend time putting the wall together each time.

It is a bad idea to use public VPNs. If you have some skills it's better to setup your own. You can get a VDS/cloud hosting to install any simple VPN script you can find in the net for free. Control and customization are the main advantages. And the price of the hosting is a bit lower than the price of a good VPN.

But if you insist on using an extension, you can use "Skyload". The thing is that sometimes it's not available through the Chrome Web store because of strong moderation. You can get it for Opera anytime. Works just fine. Keep in mind that it's necessary to use extension called "Ghostery" with it, because it contains some scripts that adds advertisement to the pages you're opening so sometimes it can be really annoying.

Personally I have had more hard drives break than cables break. If you mean by not connecting, your hard drive doesn't show up, then the likelihood is that it is kaput. If you can get it to show there is software to recover lost files.

My first thing would be to check your monitor. If possible see if yours works on another PC or see if you can borrow one to try out on your PC

@spam17: @sutieday: What's the best software to download all videos available on a site. I have a paid subscription to a website and would like to get the most out of it. I would also like to be able to configure it to download 2 - 3 files at a time to avoid suspicious download activity. I used to enjoy Websnake's software which nowadays seems outdated.. I used to use Black Widow Spider

@alekz: long shot but anyone knows of a program that allows me to save streaming videos (specifically from fr@tp@d / fr@tmen) i have acces for a bit and its driving me crazy that i cant find one program that works, any suggestions? thanks in advance Applian Media Catcher is able to intercept a lot of streams Applian Video Capture records sections of your video screen Techsmith Camtasia also records sections of your video screen (but is not as user friendly as Camtasia) Techsmith Snagit can capture not only still images but also video WinX HD does a good job capturing some streams, especially Youtube URLs Those 5 are all great programs.  There are probably 100 others that are advertised as doing the same thing, but they are shit.

You may need to change the permissions in your app settings in the control panel. This is a common thing for Windows 10.

I went down the paid route and opted for TubeDigger - I don't regret that decision one bit. Outside of capturing cam streams, I've found it super handy for other use-cases as well. I pair it with IDM (internet download manager); what videos one of those is unable to capture, the other almost certainly is.

I think it should be a common guideline to post something of the following along with .torrent: File size: Duration: Overall bit rate: Bit rate: Width: Height: Display aspect ratio: Frame rate: Bits/(Pixel*Frame): This info is easy for everyone to get. I recommend MediaInfo tool - install it - right click a videofile and select MediaInfo from context menu https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

@MrMazda: My best advice is to use a secure VPN (preferably OpenVPN based) that does not log anything such as PrivateVPN. This will ensure that you're able to mask absolutely ALL of your internet traffic, including DNS lookups and the information of where you're actually connecting to and what you're really doing on the internet. Regardless of what VPN you use, make sure that they support P2P traffic, that they log nothing, and that they have a port forwarding option. PrivateVPN is all of the above, and from my experience, they just work. I would prefer I free solurion.. Any suggestions?

@MrMazda: Yes… It is not uncommon for universities to censor certain content from their network. This generally consists of adult content, and websites that promote or are otherwise affiliated with criminal activity. I sort of get the reasoning behind it, but what they fail to understand is that at this day and age, there is no such thing as internet censorship. Simply put, internet censorship is a myth! Also, it is not uncommon for universities (at least in North America) to attempt to censor P2P traffic from their networks, as the majority of (although not all) P2P traffic is illegal pirating. This is generally done as a legal precaution to attempt to keep the university out of trouble by blocking such traffic from their network. EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that PrivateVPN can be set to work on TCP 443, or if you want port forwarding, can also be setup to use UDP 53. TCP 443 is used by HTTPS websites, and UDP 53 is used by DNS, so blocking either one of these ports to filter content would render the internet itself useless. This is one thing that I like about them. This way, there really is NO network that you cannot bypass the censorship of, because even if they force all DNS traffic to their own servers, there's also the TCP 443 route, which cannot be blocked. So… Unless they're blocking all DNS traffic except to their own internal servers, and they're domain null routing to bypass VPN providers specifically by domain, there really is no way to control what content can pass through a network. I've found such software for my Android phone.. What about my Windows PC? Which software should I try firstly?
