    • RE: Torrent links in messages

@tnar the wishlist notification is new, was implemented just yesterday!

about the links, that's the new format that will be used once the new site is launched, i really don't know what is causing them to be passed to the current site, as they only work in the new one. i will inform the admin about those links...

since those links only work in the new site, you can give it a try using this link: https://www.gaytor.rent/setproxy.php?v=develgt just be reminded that its still in progress and some things might break momentarily at any time.

It could as well be a ddos attack, since the server is timing out. They could be going through a migration of some sort, or the sysop might be less available to handle those issues.

    • A note about Partial Downloads and Bad Ratio tracker s tatus

I've seen an increase in "bad ratio" reports here in the forum lately, it's an issue that many of us end up facing eventually and with the new site it's finally being addressed in a manner that is good for everyone.

This is the message from admin:

Those partial torrents you're seeding aren't actually using up a download slot. A torrent only counts toward your slots while it's actively pulling data. The moment it stalls (no seeders) or you've grabbed the files you wanted and it stops downloading, it no longer counts against you — even though it still shows in the leeching list because it's technically incomplete. So keep seeding those partials all you like; they're not eating into anything.

I'm making this post to ask all of you guys to watch closely for the tracker status message if you ever come across a stalled download, if you see a "bad ratio" status message while you are not actively downloading the number of torrents reported in the message, please report it here in the forum or in the helpdesk.

    • RE: Tracker Not Working

@john32123666 @Kevin4fm the tracker's code is being updated more frequently because of the new site, so it can be offline for a while. Even when the tracker is offline, once your client is connected to other peers the download/upload will still occur, but the traffic will not be registered... So when you notice the tracker is not working DON'T close your client or you'll lose your session's traffic forever!

Once the tracker is reachable and a reannounce occur it will sync up the traffic.

    • Torrenting for begginers & Tips for new members

So you've got an account here, yay!

You downloaded your first torrent, let's say it was 5GB in size.
The bytes you receive are called download traffic, and the bytes you send are upload traffic.
Those files you just downloaded came from other users, who had this torrent already.

Just like downloading from others increase your download traffic, when other members download from it increases your upload traffic as well.

This means that, just keeping a bunch of torrents seeding in your client is not enough to ensure your ratio will not drop.
Your upload traffic only increases when someone actively pulls bytes off of your client.

Each torrent has its own ratio, it is a simple calculation: uploaded bytes divided by downloaded bytes.

When you download a torrent and doesn't upload any of it to anyone, your ratio is null.
If you upload the same amount of bytes that you downloaded, your ratio is 1.

In my example where a torrent has 5GB and you download all of it, you can still end up uploading more than that and have a ratio that is greater than 1. It only depends on how popular that torrent is and its demand.

What to look for in order to maintain a good ratio: check how many seeders/leechers a torrent have before downloading. If it has a lot of seeders and very few leechers, this is a very low demand torrent. You're most likely never going to seed enough of it to balance your downloaded bytes.

This is fine though, you can still rely on popular torrents that will make up for it. By seeding popular torrents you can build a ratio surplus (you upload more than you download) which will make up for the torrents where your ratio is below 1.

See the image below for reference:
Some torrents have an empty ratio (no bytes uploaded) while some go way past 1.
      4a3bb0c2-7f92-404f-b2c6-fbf671eed768-image.jpeg

NEW TORRENTS: torrents that were uploaded in the last minutes/hour have a high demand. Almost everyone will see it, chances of people downloading it are very high. The quicker you download it, higher are the chances that you will upload to someone else. With time, this demand decreases... People see it less often, the number of seeders increase so much, if anyone tries to download again, they might connect to a different member.

Downloading new torrents is a very easy method of building a ratio surplus, but it is risky: there's no guarantee that you will seed as much as you've downloaded, you can end up with a lower ratio than you had before.

FREELEECH TORRENTS: this is where it's safer to build up ratio. Anything you download is free, it doesn't decrease your ratio. But any bytes you upload for that torrent still counts. This means your ratio can only increase or stay the same, but never go down.

When downloading freeleechs with the intent of recovering your ratio, you must focus on the ones with the least seeders.

There's a sorting option just for that:
      05558cae-9154-4d2e-9218-8f973c4264b3-image.jpeg

If you always download new or freeleech torrents and your ratio doesn't increase, or increases very slowly:

Check your port-forwarding rules in the torrent client to see if it matches the rules in your router. If it matches, use this site to check if it's working: https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

Type in the port number and press check. If it says "closed" your ability to seed is significantly reduced.

If you get "closed" door status and you are not using a VPN, it is possible that your Internet Service Provider is relying on a carrier-grade NAT, this makes your computer unreachable for other members. You can still upload, but it decreases your chances significantly. It will be extremely difficult to keep a good ratio if you are behind a CG-NAT.

What to do if you are:
VPNs: you can make use of a VPN for torrenting, granted that the VPN provider supports port-forwarding. Here's a list of VPNs that support it:

      • ProtonVPN
      • Private Internet Access (PIA)
      • Windscribe
      • PureVPN
      • Hide.me

VPN Port-Forwarding is a premium feature so you will not be able to port-forward using a free-tier VPN subscription. Without this, if you are behind a CG-NAT or otherwise cannot get an open port, you are cooked.

Seedbox: Seedboxes are exceptionally good at improving your ratio, because they run 24/7 at very high speeds, once you add a new torrent there the chances of going way above 1 ratio is very high. You can use it for freeleech torrents as well, if you favor torrents that are big in size you can leverage your ratio really fast.

@Kevin4fm I think you're missing something. Inside the category selector, there's a option called "Match Mode" that can be set to either Any ot All. Any is default, shoes any torrent containing at least one of the selected categories. All on the other hand only show torrents that have all selected categories, which is why in that mode you can only select up to 5 categories to search.

    • RE: Prowlarr and qui

@TorrentingHB the site is undergoing a massive overhaul, and as it happens the new layout is being delivered by default since a few days ago. The maintainers of the indexer database must redo their scripts to make it compatible again.

In the mean time, what you can do:

      • Login to GT as usual, notice that you have the new layout.
      • Go to dev tools (CTRL+Shift+I) and go to storage tab (if you're on chrome it's Application tab) and look for "cookies" in the sidebar.
      • Find the cookie named "proxy" and change its value from "develgt" to "live"
      • Reload the page and login again
      • Go back to the Network tab and copy the new cookie strings.

Then, you can go back to prowlarr and add the indexer again, using the new string you just copied.

    • RE: I can only seed for 1 person, and that's it.

Low upload speeds can reduce how much you seed because BitTorrent usually prefers peers that are faster and easier to connect to.

Another common issue is carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT). Some ISPs make multiple customers share the same public IP address, which often prevents port forwarding from working properly.
When that happens, your torrent client cannot accept incoming connections from other peers. You can still seed, but only to peers your client connects to first. Other people cannot freely connect to you.

This becomes a bigger problem when many users are in the same situation. For example, if both you and another peer are behind CGNAT, neither side may be able to connect to the other directly, so no data gets shared between you.
That is why some people seed much more easily than others, even on the same torrent.

      The most effective fixes are:

      • using a seedbox
      • using a VPN that supports port forwarding
      • getting an exclusive IP from your ISP or VPN.

A VPN with port forwarding can solve the connectivity issue, but if your upload speed is still very low, faster peers will usually be preferred over you whenever they are available.

Some ISPs and VPN offer you an exclusive IP for a price, usually it is very expensive or reserved for business plans, and with your low speeds the cost are unlikely to be justifiable.

To me, your best solution would be to rent a seedbox, but if you cannot spend any money on this matter, you will have to be very mindful of what you download.

@jujulette registrations for gaytorrent are open sporadically, like most private trackers.
also, there are subreddits focused on alerting people about private trackers with open registrations, which is a lot more effective than just begging for a stranger to invite you.
