@massafera There is another LGBT torrent site (something.org...I won't mention the name) that is not publicly accessible, and has lots of torrents from sources that send takedowns to gt.ru. As a member of that site I have no problem using it. Whatever they're doing should be done here.

    • RE: Have all the good uploaders gone?

@drekkin I share your frustration. While I'd like to always thank people for sharing their content, some torrents are simply garbage. I wish people would apply some sort of "golden rule" to their uploads...meaning "only upload a torrent with content/description/images/etc. that you would want to download yourself." I don't see why anyone would want to download a 50 GB torrent called "my favourite porn" with 20 cryptically named files and one or two pictures (that aren't necessarily related to any of the files). Surprisingly, though, there are people who download stuff like that.

I don't think the solution is to sanction uploaders of garbage torrents, but perhaps there's a way of rewarding uploaders of really good ones. Some torrents are clearly the result of much care by their uploaders, with clear description of the content, including thumbnail pages for each video file (and that's very easy to do). It would be nice to have a reward for these superstar uploaders. Perhaps more use of the "thank you" button is enough.

    • RE: illegal file

As the discussion above shows, this is a complex topic. I'll add a few of my own thoughts here.

As for underage material, as @bi4smooth points out, you can't simply look at a "model" and determine their age. While a pre-pubescent 10 year old would not be mistaken for an adult, someone who's 15 can look 20, and vice versa. It would be nice to be able to rely on a producer's certification of age-compliance, but this is not infallible. Some get it wrong, and some purposely misrepresent the facts.

Then, there's the issue of amateur material--anybody with a smartphone can make and post a video. There's no way to determine the age of the performers, and thus some sites will not host (or share) material that isn't from a commercial producer. There is amateur material on GR.ru, and it's possible that there are some underage performers. The moderators can't look at everything that's uploaded.

Part of amateur material is voyeur content--filmed in a locker room, shower, or over the divider of a toilet stall without the consent of the subject. These subjects could pursue both the person taking the photos and anyone possessing that material for an invasion of privacy--the usual norm being that photos or videos taken where a person has a "legitimate expectation of privacy" constitute such invasion. This gets further complicated given that there's no way to verify the age of a person being recorded in such circumstances. I have seen some toilet stall videos where I am less than convinced that the subject was 18 or over.

And finally, we need to distinguish age of consent from age of majority: In Canada, and most of the United States, it is legal to engage in sexual activity with someone 16 or 17 years old--but possessing a photo of that person's genitalia would be a crime.

One conclusion from all this is that each of us needs to use caution about what material we download and/or keep on our computer. Ultimately, it doesn't matter that you believe it's "legal" or can make an argument for that being the case, but rather it's what the legal system would think if you come under scrutiny. There have been cases where a person's computer or download records were seized for one reason or another, and when an investigator had reason to believe that there was banned material present, criminal charges were made. These might be later dismissed or acquitted, but only after considerable inconvenience and/or embarrassment. I don't say this to frighten people, but only to recommend that all of us be careful in what we do. Unless one is really into child (i.e., pre-pubescent) material, there's an abundance of clearly legal content available on this site that will be more than satisfying.

@gaycatking The takedown process is somewhat mysterious, because the site owners/operators quite understandably prefer not to discuss it. My own view is that rather than being unhappy about torrents that go away, I prefer to be grateful for the torrents that remain.

@GareMyster said in Copyright Infringement - Information:

I've read the rules over, and over, and over, but I don't find any rumors that these files are copyrighted, considering I've downloaded them elsewhere.
If you help me shed some light on the matter, I would be grateful, otherwise I find it difficult to download considering that (donors aside), considering that I should also upload my files.
I conclude by saying that I am very happy to share my files, but I find this unfair.

First off, thanks very much for sharing your material--that's what makes this site work, and I hope you continue to do so even if there are frustrations along the way.

As others in this thread have noted, pretty much everything here is copyrighted, and it's ultimately up to the copyright owner how much--or little--to enforce their copyrights. If something is posted on this site and someone can prove to the site owners that they own the copyright and want the material to be removed, the site will do that. There are some studios that are very vigourous about this. I won't mention their names, but some of them will make a take-down request within a few hours of something being posted. Other studios are more lax...in fact, I got a notice from the site that some material I uploaded was being removed some five years after it went up.

(The situation can get more complicated if the studio that produced the material no longer sells it--maybe they fired a model or their was some other legal issue. In that case, the studio is not losing any revenue by having their material on here for free, so they're less likely to ask for it to be taken down. They might even like to have it here, as advertising for what their studio produces.)

If you're uploading material from studios that ask the site to take down the material, I'd suggest that you keep doing so, because people who like that studio will probably keep an eye out for it and grab it quickly before it goes away. I also suggest uploading smaller torrents (i.e., one or two files) that users can fully download before the torrent goes away. A "mega-collection" of 50 GB will can leave people with a lot of incomplete files.

Again, thanks for your contributions, which make this an even better site.

    • RE: Trackers remain "updating"

Check to see which version of uTorrent you're using: Version 3.6 has lots of bugs and causes many problems. The solution is to download and install version 3.5, and then set preferences so that the software doesn't automatically try to upgrade itself back to 3.6.
      .....................
The procedure for doing this, courtesy of @john32123666 , and copied/pasted from him, is as follows:

      In uTorrent point on Options/Preferences/General
Uncheck - Updates & Privacy / Check - Notify me before installing updates ...
[This will prevent your client from updating automatically] ...

      [Older versions/Windows only] :
      https://utorrent.en.uptodown.com/windows/versions

If you want to downgrade from earlier version,
[simply disable your anti-virus] and disable software updates from keeping your client updated ...

      SEE : https://community.gaytor.rent/topic/9055/utorrent-how-to-downgrade-or-fresh-install-classic-version-2-2-1-build-25302
      ........................
I followed these directions and everything worked fine. Note that you don't need to uninstall 3.6; the installation of 3.5 will keep all your settings and torrents.

    • RE: Catch 22 - Humongous Torrents

@LordNemesis One big problem with huge torrents is that if they have content from a studio that is aggressive--and rapid--with takedown requests, it's possible that nobody will get even one completed file, even if s/he has only selected a few files from those available. The uploader thus gets seed credit, but downloaders can be left with nothing usable. I agree that some forced moderation here could be appropriate.

I share your dislike of unintelligible file names with no thumbnailing. This is inexcusable given the ease of solving this problem: I have a utility called "AMT Auto Movie Thumbnailer" (freeware available at https://funk.eu/amt/ ) that will make bulk thumbnail mosaics from a whole directory of videos--one can give it a whole folder of video files and it will produce a preview image for each one. These can be included in their own directory in a torrent so that downloaders can decide which--if any--video files they want to download.

    • RE: Banned from uploading for 90 days.

@semurg30 said in Banned from uploading for 90 days.:

Is there a banned list of studios we are not allowed to post from?

No and yes. The rules page ( https://www.gaytor.rent/notallowed.php ) lists types of material than can't be uploaded (e.g, under-age, bestiality, drug use). No studio names are listed except those known to to have many under-age models.

There are other studios (that I won't name) that are very vigourous in sending in DMCA requests that their stuff be taken down. (I can think of several, but I'm not going to name them.) The operators of this website know who those studios are, but don't use their names on the banned list for reasons that are probably complex, confidential, and necessary to keep the site operating.

It's entirely possible that an uploading ban could come about if a person repeatedly uploads material from these hyper-vigilant studios and gets notified over and over again that their stuff has been subject to a DMCA takedown. This is speculation on my part, and can't be confirmed or denied by a moderator--but I think it makes sense.

Yes, that's the philosophy. I did a search for "boys love drama" and came up with 32 torrents that are probably yours--and a quick look at the page with some mental arithmetic shows that your torrents have been downloaded close to 500 times. This says a lot more about how much people appreciate your sharing than one angry troll.

That troll will be even angrier if he sees that all of those torrents now have an additional rating vote...for five stars. I wonder how that happened...

Please continue to share your material--many people appreciate it.

@raphjd Fact check: The US national debt is about $28 trillion. See https://www.usdebtclock.org/, or any other reliable source.

That's still a huge number. If only the Americans had elected Donald Trump as President in 2016: He promised to pay off the debt within eight years. (https://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/275003-trump-i-will-eliminate-us-debt-in-8-years )

Instead, the person who was in the White House from 2017 to 2021, with the consent of a Republican Senate, increased the national debt by 36%.

    • RE: Re-uploading existing torrent instead of re-seeding existing one?

@cinemacapman As I understand it, a new torrent is only a duplicate if there's an existing torrent "with at least one seeder." Duplicating a dead torrent with an identical new one is not a duplicate, if that terminology makes sense.

Uploading a new sort-of-duplicate-of-something's-that-dead has the advantage that it will show up at the top of the search listing, whereas resurrecting a dead torrent by re-seeding it will not. This will expose (!) the new torrent to users who have joined the site since the dead one was posted; such users might not have found the dead torrent otherwise.

I will occasionally upload a new torrent with older material if I think it's of significant value that might be overlooked by other people. I don't do this often, and again, only for something that I think would be of great value to people.

(Sometimes I also take older material and convert it from less popular formats like .flv or .rm, and/or join multiple smaller files into a single file. The torrents resulting from these things would not be considered duplicates even if the source torrents were still live.)

So, I don't think it's necessary to report a new torrent that replaces a dead one, even if the dead one is still in the system. A user could conceivably abuse this process* by uploading a bunch of new torrents, but if other users choose to download the material, perhaps it's a benefit rather than abuse.

      • I tried hard to think of some quip connecting torrent abuse to self-abuse, but I couldn't. I need more coffee.

If your torrent is report [taken down], please check to see if people are still downloading. Continue to seed please!!

I would underscore this. Even if the tracker software doesn't give upload credit for this seeding, we've all had the frustration of not being able to complete a download because other seeders have evaporated. If you're connected to another peer when the torrent is deleted, the connection with that other user will stay active (at least that's been my experience).

      @bi4smooth

But fully vaccinated people have died too.

      But what about....?

Yes, some fully vaxed people do get very ill and die--but the undeniable fact is that people who are vaxed are much less likely to do so.

Public health and safety issues should be seen as risk reduction, not risk elimination. People who follow traffic signals might still get into a crash at a junction, but they're less likely to. People who exercise might still get heart disease, but they're less likely to. The fact that preventive measures don't always work doesn't mean they aren't effective and should be taken. This might be a difficult concept for some people to understand.

Who are YOU to say that he would have survived?

@bi4smooth did not say that. But it is a fact that people who are vaccinated are less likely to become very ill and die.

That little brat doesn't deserve attention. When I'm stumbling through the torrent listings and I see one with a single rating and it's one star, I'll sometimes give it a five star rating just for fun...and bingo! The average rating is now three stars.

There are indeed some rather carelessly posted torrents...things titled "Hot guys have sex" with no pictures and a file name like skrjgsghs.mp4. That might deserve one star, but I think most people put some degree of care into their torrents (some obviously more than others) and it's disrespectful to slap one star on that. I especially appreciate members whose English is rather weak, but they still make the effort to post on here.

      • Was my question already answered?
      • Will my new post add anything to the discussion?

I think the bottom (!) line is that people upload torrents, and moderators are sometimes forced to remove some of those torrents. It has always been that way, and always will be. It's inherent in peer-to-peer file sharing.

I am thankful for members who upload things, and I am thankful for moderators who keep the site safe and available for all of us.
