    • RE: ALL DOWNLOAD TRACKERS DOWN

DHT, PeX and LSD should always not be allowed (in my qBittorrent it says "Disabled for this torrent") because they're related to public trackers, so specifically disabled for the torrents here, which are private.

I spent about three days earlier in the week convinced this site had suffered the same takedown issue as other gay torrent sites, as not only did all my trackers error out, but also I couldn't access the site itself. When I mentioned it to someone, he advised he'd had no problems but maybe it was a UK thing. Sure enough, when I switched my VPN to another country, everything connected straight away. I've not yet tested if it really was/is a UK thing or just my own system having a bad day, but that's worth a try as it should be very easy.

    • RE: Thumbnails are HORRIBLE

It depends what you mean by "thumbnails". I suspect different people have different definitions, but I definitely agree about the uselessness of micro-pictures, especially where these are a single shot from each of many different files.

On the other hand, the type of thumbnails that show multiple snapshots from within a single movie convey much more readily the full contents of a particular scene without the need of a long text description.

Here's a typical thumbnail I'd upload for each file contained in a torrent:

      Ajax Styros [t] & Lindo [b] {400421}.jpg

It's created with Video Thumbnail Maker. A free version is available, or it's only about £20 (if I recall correctly) to get a licence. I see many people here use the free version, which embeds the software's logo and info in one of the screenshots. What many people don't seem to be aware of, or at least utilise, is the ability to have multiple sized frames within the same image. This means you can show both a couple of reasonably sized shots with the performers more clearly visible, and the 'story arc' of the whole scene. If there are only a handful of files, thumbnails don't need to be included in the torrent but can be added as part of the torrent's description. Indeed, I'd argue this is a better way to do it because it makes seeding / reseeding much easier without forcing a downloader to also keep unwanted images.

For larger torrents, including the images makes sense. They can be downloaded first and then be used to judge which particular files you might want. I would, though, add a plea for these images to be in a separate folder to the main files. If a torrent contains fifty movie files with a thumbnail for each, that's great, but if you have to go through the file individually selecting or deselecting just to get an initial thumbs only download to select from.

I'm sure it's hardly worth mentioning that when you upload a torrent, the rules do stipulate "GOOD QUALITY" images. I don't personally feel that images that are 300px by 150px, for example, meet that requirement.

    • RE: WHY ISNT THIS PRIVATE

@ianfontinell I too thought uploader names were being displayed when I first used the new format site. However, after a while I realised the only time a name was displayed was when I was looking at a torrent I'd uploaded myself. There it showed my username.

Maybe there was a short period where this wasn't the case, but I've just checked the latest top eight uploads, and they all show as "Anonymous". Admittedly this isn't a huge sample, but since noticing my name as the torrent uploader on one, I've been checking most of the torrents I've opened to view the detail albeit often 'unconsciously'.

So if it was a problem, it seems to have been a short lived one that has since been corrected.

Perhaps if others see their name and make the same assumption, a simple fix would be to display "You" as the uploader, rather than your username.

    • RE: WHY ISNT THIS PRIVATE

@MrMazda Does the granting of a subpoena not require 'probable cause'? Allowing public access to the forum will likely be the basis of a 'probable cause' subpoena for the main site's records. Even if making the forum 'Members Only' only makes something like that only marginally less likely, that's still lowering the risk.

And that argument does nothing to address the question of what benefits are there to it being public. If there are none, it should surely be private.

    • RE: WHY ISNT THIS PRIVATE

As far as the forum is concerned, should the question not be simply "What is the benefit of this forum being public?"

To my mind that it may be common practice elsewhere is not a good reason. I was extremely pleased when I finally got forum access recently. However, until this thread I was unaware that the forum isn't protected by "Member Only" access. Now that I am aware, and need to self-censor what I say in case I inadvertently say something that exposes me to risk, I'll need to rethink my participation.

    • RE: why is there a three message limit?

@cp2000 Yeah, this is my experience on the main site too. It's a "hard limit" of three messages, possibly in a twenty-four hour period rather than "per day". This would make sense, given when each "day" starts differs according to time zone. I've only a little experience, but it has definitely hit the three messages maximum to a single user, even when that user has been an Admin or Moderator.

This is, I think, something that few are aware of until they try to send a fourth message. I now point this out when I reply to messages, advising "don't waste a reply to this with 'thanks for the info'!"

This was before the forum access issues were fixed. I'll likely now suggest to anyone that messages me on the main site that we continue the conversation - if necessary - here.

    • RE: I can only seed for 1 person, and that's it.

@MrMazda It took me ages to work this out, driven mainly by wanting to know why I couldn't snatch torrents with one or two seeders no matter how long I connect to them, and noticing people waiting indefinitely to leech torrents I'm the sole seeder of.

I have a feeling it's something not that many people are aware of. I was going to post an explanation, and kinda one-off workaround guide here, until a long discussion with my AI friend taught me that there are a couple of other "must have" factors which complicate things further. For the time being, I've stepped away from the idea, at least until my head is no longer at risk of exploding!

Just a thought: Since the ability to port forward is so integral, and there are few VPN providers who allow this, might it be worth the site listing somewhere a few of those that do, perhaps with more in depth "this is the advantage of this one" info? I'm sure some are likely to offer "refer-a-friend" or "associate" type financial rewards, so this might generate a small income stream to help defray the costs of providing and maintaining this site.

    • RE: I can only seed for 1 person, and that's it.

@TooTired82 I doubt upload speed is a hugely significant factor in itself. My maximum upload speed is 2mb/s, but I manage to maintain a reasonably healthy 2:1ish ratio.

As @ianfontinell suggested, a major improvement would likely come from using a seedbox, if you're happy to pay for one. On another site, before I discovered this one, using that method I got to a greater than 6:1 ratio, and had a buffer of something like 135TB. Even after dropping the seedbox, I'm pretty sure I could have spent the rest of my life just downloading whatever I fancied, and never reaching the point of having to worry about ratio again. Unfortunately for me, it looks like that healthy balance has just disappeared.

From what I've learned, through a lot of research into it, port forwarding is definitely a major step forward. At least one person in a swarm has to have this to keep things working. That's why it's not unusual to see a torrent has one or two seeders, one person trying to leech, yet nothing ever gets snatched. It also explains why, when I upload a new torrent and am ready and waiting to seed it, nothing happens even though there are three or four people waiting. Then, all of a sudden, it starts. I believe this is because someone who does have port forwarding joins the swarm.

Unfortunately, port forwarding is not a feature offered by most VPN providers, so when it's time to renew, it's worth investigating and changing if necessary to get that.

    • RE: My third torrent just won't seed and show as "Visibile"

      @Rayshine

In your main view, listing all your torrents, check if under status it says "Completed" or "Seeding". If it says "Completed" (1) (2), you need to start it. Highlight the torrent by clicking on it once (2) then either click the green "Resume" (or 'Start') trfriangle in the toolbar at the top, or right click and pick 'Resume' from there.

      697ea1b8-d233-4487-a72a-eb4064beaa5b-image.jpeg

Status should go from "Completed" to "Seeding". This will automatically reflect in the torrent here within a few minutes. It will show as being seeded and will appear on the list of available torrents. If you're using the old site layout, you can force this more quickly by clicking "Yes" on the edit page (I suspect that's where you are from your original comment). I'm fairly sure there's something similar in the new site layout, but I've only uploaded one torrent so far using that one, so can't remember where it is... if indeed there really is one.

But as I say, that's not really necessary. It will start automatically.

Just to check though. You did download the new torrent from the created page, yes? You haven't simply launched the torrent you originally created in qBittorrent? That would definitely give a tracking error. If in doubt, simply delete the torrent from qBittorrent (just the torrent itself, not the files obviously) then download the torrent from the site and run through the process again. Unless the torrent itself contains a huge amount of files, this is pretty quick, so maybe worthwhile doing anyway, just to be certain.

This may sound obvious, but I've lost count of the number of times I've sat pondering exactly this question, until finally realising that after carefully checking "Force Recheck" had successfully completed, I didn't change the torrent from "Paused" to "Active".

      Probably not that, but...

    • RE: Do re-encodes count as duplicates?

@pvtycyn According to 'The Rules' (number 2): "DUPLICATE files are not allowed and will be removed. You are expected to run a search for duplicates prior to submitting a torrent. Duplicates may be accepted when part of a themed collection. A file is considered a duplicate if an existing torrent has the same format and similar size (<10% difference) and has at least one seeder."

From personal experience, I've had one torrent (or maybe two) adjudicated a duplicate even though it was a different format to an existing one (.mkv -v- .mp4) because it was of a similar size, so it seems a safer rule-of-thumb is to meet the size differential requirement, regardless of format.

    • RE: website very slow

@idumy Understood, but I genuinely don't - as a rule - suffer any noticeable delay or slowness.

      Two exceptions:

Initial site entry. There is usually a very slight delay when I first enter the site. This is generally no more than a second or two, and is no different to other sites I visit where the initial page I'm loading contains a great deal of dynamic information - i.e. lists of many different torrents which are constantly changing. Even then, it's certainly far quicker than sites like my utilities providers, who immediately take me to my "Account" page but then spend what feels like an eternity displaying "Please wait while we retrieve your data".

Capacity Issues: I do, more frequently here than on most sites, get the "Cloudfare" notice, advising maximum capacity has been reached. Please wait a bit then try again." It's rare that this doesn't disappear when I refresh a few seconds later.

My point is this. I have no super-duper advantage. I don't have a huge number-crunching capacity on my desktop PC (though it is gamer spec., so possibly a little more than many). I employ no special graphics accelerator or other fine-tuning background apps to help overcome issues or limit bottlenecks etc. As far as I'm aware, in this respect I'm just a regular user.

So if, with no special accommodations, the site performs well for me, it suggests that there are no inherent issues with the site itself, so further suggests that any difficulties experienced may be coming from the user side.

This doesn't, of course, explain why it's only this site you're having problems with, but it would certainly be worth trying a few things to eliminate them as possible causes. For example:

      • Clear your cache for this site. It's actually a good idea to clear this for all sites, now and then, , and accept there will be a short period where it wil take very slightly longer to display images, etc., in sites you visit regularly while the cache is rebuilt.

      • Try a different browser. Although every browser is supposed to interpret the code it's given in exactly the same way, in accordance with agreed international standards, the reality is that there are always slight differences. (I'm currently using Vivaldi, but have no issues when I use Firefox instead.)

      • Take a look at your browser settings. I have a nagging memory of a setting which basically says "load the layout and the text first, then go back and load the images in the reserved spaces next". That may be something that doesn't apply any more, or maybe never did and I'm just mixing up half learned stuff floating around in my memory.

      • Try turning your VPN off. (Obviously, pause your torrent client before doing this.)

Will any of the above, or other things that might occur to you, solve the problem? Probably not, but at least you'll have ruled them out.

Of course, it's entirely possible that there is some underlying hurdle, and I'm just extremely lucky in having accidentally avoided a problem I didn't even know existed.

@hohp2806 Thanks for the info. Nothing leaps out as an "Ah ha!" moment.

I'd recommend sending a message to the Helpdesk from the main site. Give them all the info you've put above, and name one or two specific torrents they can take a look at. If you're also able to grab a screenshot or two - like the one I posted - and include that, that may be helpful.

The Helpdesk have access to the behind-the-scenes data, so they can compare what should be happening with what is actually happening. That's a good place to start investigating why it isn't!

    • RE: Upload activity not registering

There are a lot of potential variables here, so the more information you can give, the more likely someone may spot where a problem might lie. For example:

      • What torrent client are you using? (e.g. qBittorrent, uTorrent, Transmission, etc)
      • Does this happen with all torrents you seed? Just ones you've uploaded yourself? Just ones you've downloaded first then become a seeder of?
      • Is your client definitely showing an uploaded amount? (1)
      • Is there any message showing? (2) (e.g. "Unregistered torrent")
      • Does the tracker number shown for the torrent match your own reference, shown under "User details" in your profile? (3)

      391c5ebe-cb70-4054-8caa-0d6c66a50496-image.jpeg

Is this happenning right now, with new / existing torrents or are you talking about traffic from a couple of day ago? There was an issue for several hours then, where information wasn't being collected in real time. It did eventually resolve itself, but if you had stopped and restarted your client during that time, you would most likely have lost any traffic data. (Though I believe that would have been both traffic down and traffic up.)

Is there any information you can give that might help people diagnose where the problem might lay? "This doesn't work. Why not?" doesn't really give us a huge amount to go on! For example:

Are you doing this in the old layout or the new layout?
Is this a torrent you have just created or one you did a while ago and are returning to?
From where are you clicking a link that takes you to a 404 page?
Is the new torrent showing in your "My torrents" list?
Does it show up when you search the title in the site with scope set to "All" rather than "Active" (or "Dead")?

@Supergey OK, same as I'm viewing. As I said before, I'm seeing no issues. The usual checklist I go through in these circumstances is:

      • Is it just this site? All sites? Some sites?
      • Clear your browser cache - ideally for just this website, or bite the bullet and clear the lot!
      • Properly sign out, close your browser, and try again from scratch
      • Do you have a second browser you can try to view it in? If so, is the issue the same?
      • Revert to the old site to see if you have performance issues there

No guarantees any of these will have any effect, of course, but all worth a try to at least eliminate some possibilities.
