Old site or new site? In lists or on a torrent's description page? If lists, which viewing mode or is it all of them? Pictures which were previously permanently displayed or only revealed on hover?

A more detailed description of precisely what the issue, ideally accompanied by a screenshot or two, will more likely result in being able to offer advice on how to overcome it.

    • RE: From 2006 to 2026 — a word about the new site

Personally, I have nothing but praise and thanks. 👏 😄 👍

I've dabbled a little in website design. That was hard enough when there was no baggage and no-one trying to use things before I'd finished designing and implementing them. What it was like to do so here on a live site with a long history would likely make me want to run away and hide!

Sure, there are one or two minor things that I personally don't like. But I bet there are other members who like it immensely while hating what I feel is brilliant. The words "eggs" and "omelettes" spring to mind, along with the phrase "Rome wasn't built in a day". I'm sure there are more minor tweaks to come.

Can I make a plea to those members who don't like things? Don't just say "I don't like it" or "It's rubbish." WHY don't you like it? WHAT is rubbish? It's fairly hard to address things if you don't know what those things are, so give specific reasons and examples.

In the meantime, @joker, my sincere thanks and admiration for what you've achieved!

As an Englishman, living in England, and happily|proudly displaying far more than a hint of Englishness, I've never once been on the received end of hatred because of that, nor seen or heard of others encountering it.

Given the ridiculousness of that statement, one has to question whether the rest of this is equally well informed.

@DeepSeaTide Interestingly, Albo hasn't been online since a day after his post here, so I'll try to answer for him. If I've read that wrong and I'm stepping on toes, apologies in advance.

First thing: Yes, a VPN is kinda essential as it hides who you are so protects you against legal action by copyright holders.

[Side note: If you don't yet currently have a VPN but plan to, try to find a provider that offers "port forwarding". It's not an absolute requirement to torrent, and few VPNs offer it, but it's a good feature to have. I won't go into why here, so I don't overload you with information!]

How are you currently downloading your torrents? Whichever app you use is often referred to as your 'client'. qBittorrent is one popular client, but there are others such as uTorrent and Transmission. Which is best for you depends a lot on your device, your operating system, and things like that. Personally I do prefer qBittorrent over other apps.

Whichever client you are using to download ("leech") should just as readily upload ("seed"). Once you have fully downloaded a torrent you cease to be a "leecher" and become a "seeder", for as long as you keep the torrent running and you have all of those files available, with their names and file types, etc., unaltered.

At this point, you get to two different seeding states: Availability and actual seeding. You get a small amount of bonus points here just for having them available should anyone want them. You get direct credit for the volume you actually "seed" (upload).

So to maximise what you upload, others need to want download it. A good way to ensure this is to grab new torrents, or newly freeleeched torrents. The advantage of the latter is that whatever you download doesn't count against your ratio. Once you've got them you can seed for as long as you like, but if your storage space is limited it's best to delete them once no-one else is downloading them from you, and replace them with newer torrents there's a demand for.

I may be explaining things you already understand, so I'll stop there. If anything is still unclear, or there's something you think I've missed, feel free to ask.

I'm neither closed minded, nor "flipping out". I just have a tendency to seek evidence of and justification for claims that seem, at best, suspect.

As I saw no references to England in the article linked to, I take it that this is your own commentary. It's the assertion that "England hates least hint of Englishness" I'm challenging, so why would there be any need to reference the original article?

The fact that you seem unable to back up your claim in any substantive way leads me to conclude it's made from - at best - a position of ignorance of the true facts, and to infer that your other assertions are therefore likely to be no more credible than that one.

My conclusion? Your last two points seem far more applicable to you than to me.

Did you create the torrent using qBitorrent's Torrent Maker? If so, paste a screenshot of that here.
It should retain all the information from its last use, so all you need to do is open it as if you are going to make another torrent. Take the screenshot, then simply cancel it. Or use the example below to create a new version, if yours is a lot different, and try again with that.

If that fails, or you're confident your looks pretty much like this one ("Tracker URLs" needs to be EXACTLY like this one, not "pretty much") take a screenshot of the completed upload page, and post that here so we can see what you've filled in where.

...as a quote, you would previously have been notified of that but now don't seem to be. And that's different to me just writing within normal comment text that " @namewithheldfornon-annoyancepurposes said he no longer gets... ". That's a mention which, I believe, you would get notified about.

The Tracker URL is vital. That's the core bit of info. so it's likely the cause of your failure.

That will always stay the same for every torrent you upload here, and it will stay there in Torrent Creator's memory until you delete or change it. I'll type it below, so you can just copy and paste it:

      http://gaytor.rent:2710/announce

Make your torrent again, but with that, and ONLY that, in "Tracker URLs", then select that new .torrent file in the Upload page.

    • RE: gb uploaded and ratio not increased

      Hi @supergey

First off, check what you've actually uploaded. What client are you using? qBittorret and uTorrent both have columns you can add to display this. In qBittorrent, right-click while hovering over the column titles (1). It's th same in qBittorrent, if I remember correctly. I'm sure other clients will have this facility too.

      849844a1-6052-4893-9085-5251d3fd5889-image.jpeg

The number of times a torrent has been loaded has no direct relationship with how much you have uploaded yourself, other than the first 100% or so to get at least one person fully seeded. After that (during it, even), leechers become seeders. It's quite possible that you upload something once, and everything thereafter is seeded by others. That's unlikely to be absolute in my experience, but it's not uncommon for me to have seeded only 220% yet there are a dozen completed uploads showing. I have no idea how the decision tree driving everything works out who is going to seed what!

Once you see that figure you'll be more certain about how much you've actually uploaded and can judge if you feel it falls short. Remember that ratios are calculated from the total you've uploaded and downloaded. If these are both low, a small addition can make a noticeable difference. The larger those totals, the more it takes from an individual upload to move the needle. For example, I was seeding one continuously at 1-1.5mb/s for most of yesterday, and was pleased to notice my ratio ticked up by one percent.

Once you have that info, send details to the helpdesk via the link in the main page's toolbar. Only they have access to the info needed to look at this specific case.

Don't forget to tell them the name of the torrent, perhaps even include a link to it. I suspect a screenshot of the torrent in your client might also be useful. Thereafter, I'm sure they'll ask for any additional info they need.

    • RE: I can only seed for 1 person, and that's it.

@TooTired82 I doubt upload speed is a hugely significant factor in itself. My maximum upload speed is 2mb/s, but I manage to maintain a reasonably healthy 2:1ish ratio.

As @ianfontinell suggested, a major improvement would likely come from using a seedbox, if you're happy to pay for one. On another site, before I discovered this one, using that method I got to a greater than 6:1 ratio, and had a buffer of something like 135TB. Even after dropping the seedbox, I'm pretty sure I could have spent the rest of my life just downloading whatever I fancied, and never reaching the point of having to worry about ratio again. Unfortunately for me, it looks like that healthy balance has just disappeared.

From what I've learned, through a lot of research into it, port forwarding is definitely a major step forward. At least one person in a swarm has to have this to keep things working. That's why it's not unusual to see a torrent has one or two seeders, one person trying to leech, yet nothing ever gets snatched. It also explains why, when I upload a new torrent and am ready and waiting to seed it, nothing happens even though there are three or four people waiting. Then, all of a sudden, it starts. I believe this is because someone who does have port forwarding joins the swarm.

Unfortunately, port forwarding is not a feature offered by most VPN providers, so when it's time to renew, it's worth investigating and changing if necessary to get that.

    • RE: ALL DOWNLOAD TRACKERS DOWN

DHT, PeX and LSD should always not be allowed (in my qBittorrent it says "Disabled for this torrent") because they're related to public trackers, so specifically disabled for the torrents here, which are private.

I spent about three days earlier in the week convinced this site had suffered the same takedown issue as other gay torrent sites, as not only did all my trackers error out, but also I couldn't access the site itself. When I mentioned it to someone, he advised he'd had no problems but maybe it was a UK thing. Sure enough, when I switched my VPN to another country, everything connected straight away. I've not yet tested if it really was/is a UK thing or just my own system having a bad day, but that's worth a try as it should be very easy.

Your understanding of the meaning of "flip out" is different to my understanding - its dictionary definition, which I believe would also be most others' understanding. I'll skip over that, as I assume English is not your first language.

      What is the topic?

      1 - This has happened - report
2 - This is what it will result in - your opinion
3 - Here are some examples of where it has happened / is happening already - your assertion

So, no, I didn't comment on the factual element (1) but challenged your assertion in (3), and expressed my own opinion that part of (3) is at best ill informed,or possibly deliberate misinformation. Given that, it's reasonable to question the validity of your other "examples". And if those "examples" are incorrect, it leaves (2) an unsubstantiated opinion.

Given the opportunity to challenge this with evidence to support your assertions in (3), you chose instead to make vague remarks and say I'm uninformed and closed-minded. This is a typical reaction by someone who has no evidence or justification for a far-fetched claim.

I don't consider any of my comments to be "off topic". I've just been asking you to show actual evidence supporting what you're saying will happen. And given that opportunity, you've consistently been either unable or unwilling to.

Feel free to respond however you like. It would seem optimistic at best to expect any sort of rational and considered response, so I won't waste my time reading it.

As far as the forum is concerned, should the question not be simply "What is the benefit of this forum being public?"

To my mind that it may be common practice elsewhere is not a good reason. I was extremely pleased when I finally got forum access recently. However, until this thread I was unaware that the forum isn't protected by "Member Only" access. Now that I am aware, and need to self-censor what I say in case I inadvertently say something that exposes me to risk, I'll need to rethink my participation.

    • Torrents Being Uploaded Without At Least One Image

Sometimes people ignore the torrent upload requirement for there to be at least one image. As an occasional issue, I just mutter a rude word under my breath and move on. However, at this moment the first page of most recent torrents is showing more without than with. Maybe not so annoying when viewing in one of the list type views, but for those looking at the grid - which is primarily visual - it's significant!

      1f4e7c9a-c670-4987-b0ea-c80f311b53aa-image.jpeg

What's the correct etiquette here? Should I wade through each torrent, leaving a comment asking for an image to be added? Should I do so via private messages to the uploaders? Should I report each one? Or should I assume that someone else will do so in an official capacity and I should just ignore it / get over it?

I'm guessing it's more likely to be a single uploader in this case, rather than a coincidence of multiple members all doing this at the same time. So maybe it's a "just pick one or two" situation, rather than every single one.

    • RE: Would downloading my uploaded torrents, mess up my ratio or use my download limits?

@bstar97 I think @frostycab 's figures for the potential benefit ratio are a little optimistic. Most downloading takes place when a torrent is new. It's seen on the first viewed pages when people look at what has recently been uploaded, and is often the torrent equivalent of an impulse buy.

As soon as you've uploaded 100% to someone, that person also becomes a potential seed. It doesn't always work out that way, of course, but it also doesn't work out that you get huge credit, even if a torrent is popular.

Example: I uploaded a 9.39GB torrent on the 25th April. My upload credit is now 21.5GB (228%). However, it has been snatched twenty-six times, and there are currently a dozen others seeding it. It is likely that many of those will only seed short term, then delete the torrent, if not the files themselves, so it will drop to only two or three seeders. I'll then get a bigger share of the pie again, but it's also likely that takers for that particular torrent will be infrequent as well. You're no longer offering to people thinking "ooh, that look fun" but to people looking to complete a collection, or who have just discovered a particular performer they'd not known about before, and are looking for more of his output, etc.

I'm with @frostycab on the solution being to increase your own local storage.

A tip that works for me is that I split my downloads into "Short term" and "Long term". Not only by tagging it so (I use qBittorrent where it's incredibly easy. Don't know about other clients) but literally. Once downloaded, most goes into the "short term" pot, and I copy it into a "holding area". Here I can prune, rename, restructure, convert format, etc., to my heart's content without disrupting my seeding ability.

I monitor my short term seeding space, deleting stuff when it no longer earns its keep and | or in accordance with space availability. Some of the stuff that I do decide to keep permanently can also be "long term" seeded, which both continually dripfeeds my ratio, and keeps torrents accessible to other members.

    • RE: Japanese video, any information at all appreciated

@apollonius It's just possible that I managed to find this particular Seiya. Could it be https://md.gvdb.org/5670/ ? If this is the same guy, that link lists many (though I doubt all) scenes he has featured in. From that, you can see the other performers that have appeared along side him in each scene, though it's not a small task to undertake!

      5670_13.jpg

If not, if you're not already aware of this site, it would be a good place to start your search. The homepage is https://md.gvdb.org Note that you may have to turn off your VPN to access it, unless you use a browser via split-tunnelling. It's a newly introduced "feature" which is certainly blocking me. There is usually at least one image for each performer. The search function seems to allow multiple filters - or at least, the above was one of the hits when I searched "Seiya 2011".

Another site you might try is https://www.gvwiki.com/search though I'm less familiar with this one, having only recently discovered it myself.
