There's probably somebody who thinks that all upscaling is bad--which isn't strictly the case. Using simple software to increase the resolution of a video file won't improve the quality, and just makes the file larger. Many people have done this, falsely claiming to have converted the file to HD.

On the other hand, there is some very sophisticated software that can make some improvement to the quality of a file when increasing the resolution. If the uploader has done this, they do indeed merit our thanks. While a 20-year-old file cannot be made to look like a current HD file, it can look a bit better.

I suspect that the one-star rater assumes that the uploader just increased the resolution without any quality improvement (which is the case with most upscales). Blowing up a file with no benefit deserves a low rating, but unless somebody has downloaded the material and compared it to a lower-resolution original, s/he's not going to know whether it's a "good" upscale or a "bad" one. It would be nice if the torrent page software only permitted rating by people who have completed a download of all the material, but that sounds like a massive software headache.

Thank you for posting these. Over here in England I saw a few short clips on the BBC showing him. I can understand his frustration with the health care situation in the US, but of course murder is not a pathway to fixing these.

About three weeks ago I uploaded a six-minute "hidden locker room" clip, probably taken at some college or city sports club. It now shows as "unregistered," but I didn't get a message from a moderator claiming DMCA or some other rules violation. All of the guys in the clip were definitely 18+, so I don't think that was the reason--and if it were, I would have expected a justifiably firm message.

I'm not complaining about the removal--the site does what the site does, and I accept that...and several hundred members snatched the clip. But I'm curious to know if there's a rule I violated so I don't do it again. I can't give a URL for the torrent because it's gone, but I can say that it was uploaded on 16 October, early afternoon Eastern US time.

Let's not forget that this, like all porn, is fantasy. Anything he says in interviews is also part of the fantasy. There's no way of knowing what's true "in real life," and also no reason to care.

@pmrrk I use uTorrent and I don't notice a problem here. I don't think I fiddled with any of the default options/preferences, so that's probably not an issue here.

I looked at the torrent you linked, and right now it has about 25 seeders and 2 leechers. As far as the tracker software is concerned, you're on equal footing with the 24 other seeders of this material even though you were the original uploader. New people grabbing the torrent will still get your material even if it isn't directly downloaded from you.

Even if you don't get lots of upload volume from the torrent, you can take satisfaction in knowing that there are 50+ other members who have downloaded your stuff. They might not post a thank-you, but they do appreciate it.

As a fine point, you'll always get a ratio of at least 1.0 with a torrent that you upload, because you have to send every piece of that file to somebody. I find that I usually have a ratio of 1.3 or so by the time my uploaded torrents are fully seeded, because some pieces will have been sent out to more than one member.

I'm happy to hear this. A written comment on a torrent post is so much more rewarding than clicking "thank you" on the torrent page. Even if that doesn't happen, I take satisfaction in seeing how many people have downloaded the material. I absolutely agree! That other board is filled with lies and misinformation.

The upload page says rather clearly "Please upload only BIG Pictures in GOOD quality!" If people are ignoring this, it might be worth reporting the torrent to staff.

Let's go back to the original post of this thread and break out the three questions that were posed:

• What is the policy on this? (With "this" defined as posting a new torrent that is essentially identical to one already on the system, but dead.) The policy is that this is acceptable, and further discussion suggests that it can even have some advantages over re-seeding the dead torrent.

• Can such a "new" torrent be reported? It is not a violation of the site's rules. There is no need to report it. Subsequent discussion said that this "reporting" would not be "reporting a duplicate" but "pointing out to staff that the 'new' one was unnecessary." It's not clear what benefit accrues from doing this.

• How [would] such a "new" torrent be reported? Using the report link at the bottom of the torrent page, but since there's no violation here, there's not need to do this.

Subsequent posts added a new question:

• Why re-post identical files? (1) The new torrent will show at the top of the search page and be more obvious to other members, and this will happen automatically without having to involve site staff in recycling the torrent; (2) "Even if you have a file with the exact same size, that you can give the exact same name, if it doesn't have the same hash value as the original file it will not seed as the original file."

I downloaded the file (82 MB), but all the meta-data that might suggest its origin have been stripped off. I'm not sure it's professional, though; I think it's two amateurs with a single camera on a tripod that they move a few times.

The takedoown process can seem random if not chaotic, but I think the site removes all--and only--those torrents that are challenged. This can look weird: I posted a torrent for a full-length video in single-file-.mp4 format that was on the site for years, and than was taken down. Oddly, the same material, in native DVD format (a .VOB folder) remained on the site--and is still here. I suspect that the site got a takedown request for the single file torrent, but not for the DVD...and responded accordingly.

This has definitely discouraged me from uploading more in GayTor as this is so questionable and I have not been experiencing this somewhere else.

I know it's discouraging to have uploaded torrents removed. I take time and care to make my torrent descriptions thorough, with good pictures, thumbnail sheets., etc. (In the past week I had one taken down, but I take comfort in knowing that almost 2,000 other users got that material.) I can see that you care about sharing material, and I suspect that your torrents are well-constructed, and I've probably downloaded some of them. I hope you continue to share.

Vacations are good things--they tend to extinguish burnout, if you'll forgive the mixed metaphor. I would pay no attention to anonymous one-star ratings (or any other ratings). If someone has a worthwhile opinion about a torrent, they should have the balls to post a comment with their username attached.

Someone from the site would need to answer this...but I don't think you'd lose it. But please don't ask your torrents to be deleted--again, I'm sure it's good stuff, and other users will enjoy having it. I, myself, may have had some enjoyable "private moments" with your torrents.

@Richiroma I think the star rating on the torrent list is the average of the votes to date, even if there aren't three of them. It's odd that the search page rating is done differently from what's on an individual torrent page, but it's likely a "feature" of the software that would be painful to change--and unnecessary.

I say "unnecessary" because I don't think the ratings are used consistently by members: Some people give five stars as a way of saying "thank you," and there's at least one troll who puts one star on torrents that he doesn't like...which seems disrespectful to the uploader. (When I see one of those, I do a five star rating so it averages to three.)

Rather than using rating stars to assess a torrent, we can look at how many people said "thank you" on the torrent page and/or how many bonus points were awarded. That said, we all have different tastes. For example, I'm not at all interested in seeing two completely shaven twinks fucking, but there's still an audience for that and it could get lots of applause from people who like that content.
