the terror of straight parents when it comes to their children…..it's utterly shameful. One day the world will look at this time and see how demented we were - not teaching children the real facts of life This idea that you must hold back images of gay people from the very young is so pervasive - even amoung my own generation who have parented the current adolecent generation - they grow up in the wild and free 60s and 70s but boy were they conservative parents.....

The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signature to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states. The Sec of State certified the petition, so the amendment to ban gay marriage will be on the November ballot. Of the 27 states that have had an amendment ballot to ban gay marriage, only Arizona was able to defeat the amendment.

You have to smile at "Jerry Falwell issued a warning to President Bush and the Republican leadership to stop "catering to gays" or lose the support of Christian conservatives." Only a twisted Jerry Falwell could complain about Bush & republicans "catering to gays". Ashcrofts tenure was pure torture to the American justice system…

Unfortunately, the article doesn't mention that the murders were business partners of Brent Corrigan. With the murder, Brent's legal troubles are now solved and he can do what he wants.  How convenient for him.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq. The federal jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress. The church and three of its leaders - Fred Phelps and his two daughters, Shirley Phelps-Roper and Rebekah Phelps-Davis, 46 - were found liable for invasion of privacy and intent to inflict emotional distress. Of course, the Phelps clan plans to appeal and are confident the verdict will be overturned.

I have a UK civil union and it does nothing really. Civil unions hold no weight outside the country or state it was issued in. Unlike marriage, that can be transfered no matter where you go. Also, most civil unions {like the UK} have to be specifically written into law and a lot of things get left out; ie adoption, pensions, etc, etc.
