"It Gets Better" vigil to stand up against bullying Dozens huddled together in Phoenix Park to support Lexington teens picked on for being gay, fighting to fend off bullies. "If something happens I'll go home and be crying and she's just like 'oh baby' and she'll hug me and just let me cry," says bullying victim Audrey Linville. Linville finds the strength to stand up against the discrimination in her mother Sandy. "It's very hard, but we get through it together," says Sandy Linville. " What is my family gonna say? What are my friends gonna say? The neighbors I've had for twenty years, the people I've gone to church with. What if they tell me that I've done a bad thing by raising her? What did I do wrong? So it is very risky and you're very isolated." The Linvilles have the support of a community, one now raising awareness of the dangerous effects of intolerance and raising money for groups dedicated to helping victims of discrimination. The It Gets Better campaign is raising money for the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention hotline for gay and questioning youth. They took up donations for the organization at the vigil, and will continue to accept donations Friday night at Soundbar.

I know the word 'celebrity' gets thrown around all the time, and today people confuse notoriety with fame (look at the cast of, say, 'Jersey Shore', or Paris Hilton… or, better yet, don't look at them and maybe they'll all go away), but Cher is truly a STAR. Love her or hate her, you can't deny her magnetism.

So a guy videotapes an encounter, sending another man on a suicidal fit and all it constitutes is "invasion of privacy"? Seriously?!?! THAT'S IT?! That goes far beyond just invasion of privacy as far as I'm concerned. What about the guy's family? Anybody ever put a thought into what it puts them through? Not to be blunt, but WTF is that bull****? At the very least it could be upgraded to criminal neglegence causing death, or better yet… MURDER! The little slime balls had better hope that they get a good long sentence in with Bubba! Screw the whole PC (Protective Custody) system... They should only be worthy of GP (General Population). Pardon the language, but I just don't understand how such a "sophisticated" country can take something of this magnatude so lightly @cumeaternc: As tragic as this was there is another issue that should be addressed.  The American Government has been looking at was to tax and regulate the internet for years.  Examples like this gives them plenty of ammo to "protect the children". I think a fitting punishment for these pranking losers is to be required to have their entire life filmed until they graduate college. Having all the "highlights" sent to their parents and the prosecutors office weekly. Showers, frat parties, dates, "bathroom time" etc. Let them see how having your life exposed for all to see can be "inconvenient" whether you are gay or not. I like the way you think. It's so….. FITTING given the nature of the issue at hand.

Maybe we should make Canada's best traits a World Wide Goal. I am sure there are things that happen in Canada that are not perfect just yet but they certainly seem to have the Gay Issue well in hand.

@raphjd: hXXp://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2010/10/14/benefits-pets/ Due to DoMA, US federal employees can get partly funded pet insurnce, but they can not get insurance for gay/lesbian partner. While Obama has repeatedly made promises to repeal DoMA {and DADT, and pass ENDA} he and his administration are on their 4th defense of DoMA.  In previous defenses, they said that gays do not deserve marriage because gay relationships were no better than incest, bestiality and pedophilia. With friends like Obama, who needs enemies. Reasons why I like Canada. For years issues of that nature have never been an issue. In fact, not only do all insurance converage companies acknowledge and honour a same-sex partner benefit, but I am living proof that it is legally permissible to marry an individual of the same sex (at least in Canada).

@martini20: @farkme: could be interesting! lol at the customers offended with mile high matrimony - no i think its more to do with the fact that theyre bigots and its gays getting married, lol Probably more to do with people being crammed into steerage class while there's a party going on in Business Class so what the firm is allowed to do whatever they want, the people that would complain are those that cannot afford business class

@beercan: "So while we certainly want to be compassionate and understanding, we must be true to who we are." that really feels like they're admitting that they are neither compassionate nor understanding. I pity the kids having to suffer through the diocese decisions… hope they don't adopt the narrow mindedness of the school in the process. i would definatly file for constructive dismissal
