I look at it this way: if you had an annoying friend, an abusive boyfriend or spouse, someone with a severe personality disorder (who doesn't try to deal with it), someone who mentally/emotionally abuses you, who constantly belittles you, etc., I think there would be near-universal agreement that you should disengage, stop trying to be friends, divorce them, do what you need to do to protect yourself, both physically and emotionally. So why should it be different just because it's a family member. Life is too short to put up that shit and you're just not going to be able to "fix" them or the situation. Set boundaries, disengage, even terminate all contact if that's what it takes. Your life will be significantly improved.

@kako75015 I have found that the vast majority of "friends" will betray you very easily. at the moment, I can't think of anybody I trust. I am working on one. If someone even has ONE person they can trust in their lives.. that is one more than most people have. I certainly do not trust any of my family members, nor neighbors, nor co-workers. I might trust RaphJD.. but he lives thousands of miles away. I am hoping to have one I can trust 150 miles away.. and perhaps even closer.

I think so. A good gay friend is someone you share interests with - that's usually a good foundation for a relationship. Possible. But you'd also have to be prepared to potentially lose the friendship if the lovers part works out badly.

You just need to educate them. Don't be too hard, they just need to catch up. Find out how they like to learn (documentary, leaflet, book) and help them find the source. They probably don't know any other gay people. When they do, they'll realise it's not how they see it.
