Hey, I'm gay and so is my brother. I came out to everybody in 2014 (at age 24, yeah i know it's late. But i didn't think i had to until i got a boyfriend). My brother (who is a year older) came out of the closet a year later. It was really a struggle for him to tell our dad, hey dad 2 out of 2 are gay… My dad however is really accepting and really doesn't care.

I dated a divorced dad with 2 sons and a daughter. needless to say i tried to avoid being around when they were visiting since they were around the same age as me. were they happy about it? nope. i guess avoidance is one way of going about it but probably not a good one.

I agree with the above post although its kind of old (a month or so) you should raise the child like the other children. If there is a male and female influence in the child's life then he will naturally stray where he is most comfortable. I'd keep in mind that he is effeminate and maybe a bit more sensitive but other than that you'd raise him just like any other child. As the boy would grow I would ensure he was aware of the importance of being yourself eventhough you may encounter people who would have more conservative values or old fashioned ways.

It sounds as if you are trying to equate being gay to a learned behavior. If that is true how do heterosexual parents raise gay children, however, here is what you asked for. According to current developmental psychology, medical studies and reports over the past 10 or more years, the research indicates that the chances of a child who is raised in a gay or lesbian household will be gay is 10% or less. Which is about the same odds that a child raised by heterosexual parents will be gay.

I have found that the best support groups are your peers. I am a gay father raising my son with my lesbian best friend, and our biggest support comes from our families, and friends. Also, if you can't find one, lets start one. I would love to get tips, and share my experiences with other gay dads and potential gay dads.
