@bc22: Is that because each torrent individually needs to communicate with the site server every 30 minutes to update stats and connections? Exactly. Every active torrent has to talk to the tracker every 30 minutes, regardless of size. If you have a 10gb folder of 50 videos in a single torrent, your client and the tracker only need to talk to each other once every 30 minutes. If you have 50 separate torrents for that folder, your client and the tracker have to talk to each other 50 times every 30 minutes. On the tracker side, every torrent is deemed "active" waiting for member clients to contact it.

@harryhell: Hey, BearBearBear. The crashes aren't very informative. I'd say 50% of the time the error message reports insufficient memory (this PC has 16GB). . Okay, that's something you should look at because there are checks you can do to make sure the memory is okay and settings you can tweak to avoid errors.  That's not an uncommon error in general, so solutions exist that are not specific to torrenting, just do a search. I also have 16 GB of RAM that was an upgrade a few years after purchasing a mid-range computer years ago and never have run into errors due to memory limitations.  I have 1,500+ torrents running on Transmission and the software does take a couple of minutes to get up and running when I restart my computer but that's the only problem I've encountered and I don't think it has anything to do with RAM, just the number of torrents that have to be loaded.  You're operating at a different scale, though.

8TB?! I have to say, I'm impressed. I have a 2 TB drive, and a couple of 500 GB drives and I'm forever doing spring cleaning to get rid of older stuff that doesn't really interest me anymore, and keep piling on new stuff. I couldn't imagine having over 8 TB to choose from…
