Most of my torrents are getting errors when trying to announce.

The majority are getting "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time...", with a few "The semaphore timeout period has expired" and "timed out", and the rare "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". Trying the announcement URL in a browser results in "Page didn't respond" errors.

This has been going on for three days now. I have contacted the help desk twice and the first time they admitted they had a "short outage" and that everything should be fine now. It was now. And I haven't heard back from the second attempt as contacting the help desk.

I think their server is overloaded and dropping requests (an attack?), or is having problems and isn't able to respond to all request.

Haven't seen any problems with seeding or leeching at my end.

@sirtricksalo Same here. I've been using this site heavily for ten years and haven't ever seen this before. Every torrents I upload to my seedbox is red. Some eventually connect after hours of waiting and download. Some never do.

Some major problem is definitely happening. I agree that an attack on the tracker server seems likely.

@turlough And only torrents from this site, using its trackers, are affected. Public torrents are fine.

@turlough I've been experiencing similar issues since the last 3-4 days. I'm using qBittorrent via VPN so it's unlikely that your setup is at fault. It's more likely that there has been a configuration change in the DoS protection for the tracker preventing so many of us from connecting. It's hard to imagine an actual DoS attack lasting so long (although I don't know this for sure).

Got another reply from the help desk. They say it's either peer blocking software or ISP DNS issues. I don't know about that. It was fine until they had their outage a few days ago, and then it's been like this since. I've tried Google's DNS and no difference.

                        I'm in Canada. Anyone else?

@vashkevron From what I can tell, it appears to be overeager DoS protection. For instance, if I switch between different VPN servers, things suddenly start working again for the first few minutes before dying back down.

I have the same experience, from the US, for 4 days. I use BiglyBT/Vuse. 50-99% of everything from this site only shows as timed out. So that's at least three clients in multiple countries. It seems unlikely that everyone's ISPs, VPNs, etc. all started exhibiting this behavior at the same time.

I have hundreds of torrents from 6 trackers in this client, and only torrents from this tracker have issues.

@tnar Very odd, since I'm using BiglyBT too, v 3.5.0.0. Haven't changed mine around in ages and not seeing any issues here. Is there an update that perhaps broke something?

My BiglyBT says it's B3.5.0.0/4 az3. It has been at least a month since last update. Same with my O/S, router, etc.

Whatever is going on may well be something related to the source of the traffic; yours would be different from mine assuming you're not secretly my next door neighbor or something.

Others have mentioned this, but I see it also. Torrents will connect and be fine for a while when I start a new torrent, or if I restart my client, as many as 100 or so will connect fine for an hour or so. After refreshes, almost all of them end up showing a timed out connection. Currently: 21 OK, 327 timed out. Other trackers: 100s OK, none timed out.

Maybe there is something to @spiffyweasel-0's idea about overeager DoS protection.

So, for me, it keeps fluctuating. Right now, around 60% good but falling. The torrents are seeding and uploading just fine. But the other 40%, are getting the error. Funny thing though, a few of the 40% are actually still seeding and are actively uploading to other peers, like the announcement was received but never responded to.

This afternoon, I heard back from the helpdesk, asking what client program I was using and as I replied, I checked the status and noticed that it was over 60% good and was getting better at about 2 to 3 torrents a second. Left it for 5 minutes and it got up to 75% good. Left it for another 30 to 45 minutes and came back and it was down to 35% good and falling at the same rate. An hour ago, it was down to 4%.

Now, after typing this post, it's back to 50% and still falling.

I have seen behavior like you describe, but today, it's mostly about 5% OK / 95% timed out.
I'm going to see if adjusting some timer values (like increasing the timeout) makes a difference.

I have the same issue. It started a few days ago, and since then most of my torrents are stuck trying to connect to the tracker. After waiting for a while some of them manage to connect, but it's very slow and infrequent (like ~3 per hour).

I am also using a VPN, and right after manually switching IP I can connect for like ~5 seconds tops.
I tried fiddling with the qBittorrent settings but nothing seemed to work.

I'm on the same boat as you guys. But I noticed it's working again after a couple of hours of not doing anything but still a hassle if you trying to improve your ratio.

I have been gathering as much information as I can on this matter, and it seems that so far, all cases have one thing in common.... The torrent client being used.

                                          uTorrent 3.6.0
                                          BitTorrent 7.11
                                          qBitTorrent 4.6.2 or above

For some reason, these versions of these torrent clients seem to be having an issue. I wouldn't be surprised if this also affects newer versions of Libtorrent, as it is essentially the same base app as qBitTorrent.

Try rolling your torrent client back to a previous version and see if this resolves the issue.

FWIW: rTorrent seems to be another Libtorrent based software, so that may explain a few things. What version of rTorrent are you running?
