I can report the total opposite of this. I did get a cool job BECAUSE I was a fag. the CEO was gay and I had one interview with him then an interview with the technical director. he preferred another guy to me but the CEO said : no way, I want him.. and so I got the job. there were about 50 guys who applied. So being a fag can be an advantage. Depends where you live.

@Matie: Yes, but pornofan these are generally in the Middle East. You certainly wouldn't 'trump' your atheism around in Iraq or Syria. Or for that matter, the UAE. Or maybe parts of the US depending on who's asking, their reason for asking and what their preferred answer would be I think I'd rather claim to be atheist than be the 'wrong' religion or denomination in Iraq or Syria as to the OP, your beliefs are a personal matter for you, it doesn't matter what other people think so you would hope it wouldn't matter if they know or not, however if you would risk being oppressed for your beliefs then it may be better to keep it quiet.

I must say I do like the A&F look some of them have, and wouldnt mind getting down and dirty with them. But only under the agreement they keep their mouth shut about LDS church. I cant deal with stupid. But that kinda stands with any religion pushing guy, I guess.

While I cannot condone outright refusing people the right to decide for themselves, I do think that, in its current incarnation, religion is inherently a tool to create arbitrary social divisions. I agree with Darth117 that the best course of action is simply to inform the populace, and let religion die a more natural death.

It's relevant for museums and studies on Mithology and on human capability of believing in almost anything albeit its complete irracional nature.

@Valicore: You of course can't change it, anymore than you can make a straight person gay. Sexual attraction is a very complicated combination of genetics, environment, epigenetics, etc. I don't think you would be any more successful at changing someone's sexual orientation through genetic therapies than you would be at changing one's bone structure - it's too deeply embedded in the brain and in our body's physical chemistry. Agreed–I feel like there's an infinite number of variables that contribute to homosexuality--and the one thing I can say is that it's natural. It occurs at a relatively uncommon (compared to heterosexuality), but constant rate. It happens in wildlife and humans--I don't think we could ever learn enough about what "causes" homosexuality to ever be able to change it.  And then again, why would we need to? It's never going to overtake heterosexuality but it's never going away either--it's constant. Sexuality, (and by that I mean true, willing attraction to whatever it is you're attracted to) cannot be taught. Behaviors can be taught, but behaviors don't say everything about what's going on inside the brain.  True sexual identification can only happen individually–you can never see inside someone's brain to see if their sexual experience is exactly the same as yours, even if you both identify the same way. As each person learns to understand the world differently, they come to understand themselves differently, and (what we categorize as) sexuality follows. It just is, and we're all trying to describe our experience. Our labels (homo/hetero/bi/a/pan/every other type of sexuality) are just a categorization of external behaviors, but inside each of our brains, it's much much more complex and and no two humans are alike. That's why I don't think it can or should ever try to be changed.
