Usernames being revealed in emails
-
Denfinitely one for @joker to perhaps take a look at.
I sent a PM to an uploader earlier using the "Send Uploader a Message" button on a listing. My mailbox on the site shows the reciever of the message as "Anonymous" in both my inbox and sent messages. However, the site automatically sent me an email notifying me of their reply, and the subject line read "You have received a PM from <their username>"
I can't help feeling this isn't the intended behaviour and that the username shouldn't be revealed in emails if it isn't on the site.

@frostycab Having seen a couple of discussions around this subject, I believe it IS intended behaviour. Hopefully, the uploader gets warned with something like "If you reply to this PM, your username will be revealed", but as it hasn't happened to me yet, I don't know.
Whether or not this should be the intended behaviour is, perhaps, a slightly different question. To which I'd lean towards maintaining anonymity, though perhaps including an option for a dramatic "It's me!!
" reveal. -
@Kevin4fm It just strikes me as odd that my on-site mailbox maintains anonymity yet off-site emails don't. I'm sure the powers that be will weigh in at some point.

-
@frostycab Oh. I misunderstood. Does the PM you received, when viewed on site, come from "Anonymous"? Yeah, it really should be one or the other for both!
-
@frostycab like Kevin said, the idea is that the uploader's identity is preserved until he decides if they will reply or not. I have noticed that it doesn't quite work, as the username is not revealed in the mailbox, although I admit I didn't even notice it was revealed in the emails.
Short answer: it's definitely a bug.

Yes... This is intended. An uploader will only remain anonymous until the time they reply to the message. Once they do, the username will appear in your messages box also.

@MrMazda Thanks. I just wasn't sure if it was behaving properly.

@frostycab oh didnt know about this!
