Torrents Being Uploaded Without At Least One Image
-
Sometimes people ignore the torrent upload requirement for there to be at least one image. As an occasional issue, I just mutter a rude word under my breath and move on. However, at this moment the first page of most recent torrents is showing more without than with. Maybe not so annoying when viewing in one of the list type views, but for those looking at the grid - which is primarily visual - it's significant!

What's the correct etiquette here? Should I wade through each torrent, leaving a comment asking for an image to be added? Should I do so via private messages to the uploaders? Should I report each one? Or should I assume that someone else will do so in an official capacity and I should just ignore it / get over it?
I'm guessing it's more likely to be a single uploader in this case, rather than a coincidence of multiple members all doing this at the same time. So maybe it's a "just pick one or two" situation, rather than every single one.

@Kevin4fm seriously, there's been a horde of uploads without any picture, can't really blame the uploaders tho, the site should prevent those uploads, it is supposed to but apparently there's a bug.
Now what truly boils my blood are those mfs who upload a series of torrents of the same buy one after another, with 1 file per torrent, instead of making a folder.
Thank God I'm not a mod because I would uphold their upload rights for that.

@ianfontinell Yeah, I've been biting my tongue till now, giving the benefit of the doubt that maybe unresolved bug issues in uploading pix are the cause. Even I can't blame a member for that.
But given how amazingly quickly @Joker responds, and fixes, any reported bugs, I don't think members can reasonably hide behind that excuse, even if it's true. If a bug has hampered them, they should be reporting it not just ignoring it, so I feel fully justified in calling them rude names - at least in the privacy of my own home. Probably not acceptable to do that publicly here!
I have mixed views on "single file or folder". It certainly takes up less real estate to have multiple files and you can download everything in one go, but it's much harder to reseed at a later date, if you've only downloaded some of the files or have moved them around to match your own filing system - by studio, by performer, by category, by published date, etc.

I am guilty, it was my first upload and I didn't understand the image add feature. Uploaded as soon as I realised but now I am waiting for mod approval
-
@briefsboy86 Fair enough. And loadsa kudos for the mea culpa. I don't think I actually said any rude words about you, but if I did, I apologise.

@Kevin4fm No all good

Totally see your point, rules are rules.
Just wanted to point out that it is not so easy to fix a no image torrent if a noob like me makes that mistake

-
@Joker I don't suppose it would be possible in situations like these to add a 'placeholder' image would it? Something like "Image(s) awaiting approval"?
See? The downside with doing difficult things so well and so quickly is that people like me start expecting the impossible too!

-
@Kevin4fm Done — torrents whose pictures are still in the moderation queue now show an "Images awaiting approval" tile in the grid instead of looking broken (and the Browse view no longer hides them completely, which it quietly did before). Genuinely picture-less torrents say "No images".
And to clear up the mystery: I checked the whole first page — every single one of those torrents has pictures. They're just sitting in the approval queue, mostly from newer uploaders. So no need for rude words, muttered or otherwise.

@briefsboy86 That's exactly your case — your pictures arrived fine and will show as soon as they're approved. Welcome aboard, and thanks for the upload.
@ianfontinell You were half right: the rule itself held on these, but one upload path really did accept submissions without a picture — that hole is closed now, on both the form and the server side.

Not only that, the torrent files have jibberish names.

@ianfontinell When users do this and it comes to my attention, I have a policy. I will first reach out to the uploader and give them a fair chance to get things right by uploading proper pictures. Sometimes the issue is either a lack of understanding what needs to be done, or there was a technical problem when the upload was submitted.
If the user fails to acknowledge the request for pictures in a short order, I will take further action. The first thing that I will do if a user ignores requests to correct the problem and upload proper pictures is delete the torrent if they have not done so in a reasonable amount of time. If the user is a repeat offender and/or has done this on multiple torrents, then I will issue a warning and/or revoke their upload rights.
Now... If a user DOES correct the issue, then I simply drop the report and move on, as they have corrected the issue. Before taking any kind of serious action against a user for doing something like not uploading pictures though, I will ALWAYS give them a fair chance to correct the problem. Rest assured though, if I get the report of torrent presentations that are lacking in one way or another, I WILL take action, so just because the pictures may not be corrected right away, or the torrent does not get removed right away, do not think that it won't be handled, because I absolutely WILL stay on top of it.

@Kevin4fm I think it might be a bug. I've just noticed a lot of uploads in the search page that "appear" to be missing pics, but when I open the details page the pics are there. For some reason the search page isn't showing them correctly.
-
@frostycab I agree, but probably a new bug, generated by the original fix. I'm fairly sure these are the same torrents that were initially uploaded without images, so got the place holder note (actually "should get", as those torrents all got "No image"). That note doesn't seem to be being replaced with one of the images, once they've been approved.
It also isn't being replaced with an "Image awaiting approval", so it still isn't possible to see whether that torrent doesn't have a pic full stop, or whether it does now have one that just hasn't been approved yet.
-
@frostycab @Kevin4fm I am unsure if this really is a new bug, because even in the old site I still have a vague memory of torrents missing pictures in the search page even though they had at least one visible in details page. It followed the pattern: upload is submitted without pictures, and they are added latter.
-
For what it's worth, I just used the ladybug button to report the issue. It shouldn't be very long now before the issue is fixed.
-
@Kevin4fm
The "proper etiquette" is to use the REPORT function and tell the Staff that there are no pics.OFTEN, the uploader has added pics AFTER the torrent listing was created - which requires Staff approval of the pics (so you can't see them, even though they're there).
When you submit a report, if the pics are there to approve, the Staffer can approve them... and if not, they can IM the uploader and ask them to fix it.
I won't go into more detail than that - so now you know what yo do!

@WikiDude The problem with this is that when I started doing some digging to see if I was able to duplicate the issue, if there were no pictures uploaded when the torrent was uploaded, then nothing will display for pictures on any of the search pages.
This is even true after pictures have been added to the torrent AND have been approved. Once the pictures are approved, they should then show on the search pages, but they don't. That's why I used the ladybug button, as that is the best way for @Joker to be able to look at and work on the bugs.

I don't know if it's just me or if anyone else is seeing the same thing, but today when I went to the search page none of the picture popups are working. The popup itself appears, but no pics. I now have to click on the camera icon for each upload to see the pics.

@frostycab It worked for me just now. Could your browser simply be suffering a case of Friday fatigue?

Have you tried closing it entirely and restarting it? Or clearing your browser's cache for this site?
-
@Kevin4fm I ended up clearing the site's cookies and restarting. Seems to be working now. Thanks.
