I have been on this site for years. I was just told that people can no longer just join and that invitations are required. What is the rationale for this and can a user issue and invitation.

@jaro1190 I'm not sure of the exact reasoning, but to issue an invite, you need to be a power user.

I am totally in favour of the invitation-only policy. It makes it harder for people who have been banned to rejoin.

@jaro1190 private trackers need to restrict registration to avoid behaviors that damage torrent health, such as hit and run and ghost accounts, which are accounts that are abandoned shortly after being created.

this practice encourages users to maintain a good ratio, which in turn helps torrents stay alive for longer times.

another serious issue that comes with permanent open registrations is the growth of bot accounts used by DMCA agents and other bad actors to monitor torrents and scrape swarm data.
