        @tightass2020:

There are MANY members who maintain a ratio above 1.0 without donating. They do it by uploading new material, seeding the material they have downloaded, and making use of the freeleech torrents. If you are serious about improving your ratio without donating, drop me a note, and I'll send you a set of instructions to earn crazy amounts of seed bonus. You can then turn that seed bonus into upload credit and boost your ratio to the moon.

Id Like info on boosting ratios etc as mine are terrible and Ive got such a long way to go to be able to download again…. but I like a challenge  😉 😉 😉

my uploading speed can't get over 100 kbps per second, so the only way i can manage to keep a good ratio is by only dowloading freeleech torrents and making my bonus points Gbs in order to be able to freely from some years from now to dowload anything i want 😞 i wanna cry really but i got used to it.

I used to be in the same boat as you about a few weeks ago.

This websites ratio system is VERY biased towards those who have faster internet connections available… And for me, the NBN rolled out into my area so I was able to finally able to leave my ADSL connection of 12Mbs down, 0.8Mbps up and jump onto VDSL 91Mbps down/40Mbps up.

The end result is... I have probably uploaded almost 100GB in just the last day or two... Where-as that would have taken me several months prior.

Basically, what you need to do to get by is rely in freeleech torrents (You shouldn't have to... But that is the way it is...)

Seed 24/7 (I no longer have to as an hours worth of uploading can result in a heap of ratio.)

And vote on all your downloaded torrents category's, each time you vote on the torrents category you get 2 seed points, so downloading small 50-100MB freeleech torrents and then voting is a good way to get 600 seed points to trade in for 10GB of uploads...

              I don't let my ration fall below 5.000 - currently it's 5.213.

I don't know what people are doing to have a ration lower than 0.500.  Are you deleting your torrents immediately after uploading?  Usually if you leave a new torrent for a week or so other people also download it improving your ration.

Every once in a while I'll look at my older downloads (more than 6 months - especially older than 2 years).  If there's something pretty good where you are the only seed AND there aren't a bunch of other versions available - make it freeleech for the newer members.

Not everyone has a good amount of upload bandwidth to capitalize on other downloaders.
For instance on some ADSL1 connections in Australia Telstra will limit the upload rate to 384kbps, but retain the download rate at 8Mbps.

That's over 6 hours to upload just 1GB whereas it would only take 17 minuets to download 1GB.
And during that time your internet is pretty unusable for even basic tasks such as web browsing, you would need to limit your upload rate to 200-256kbps… Which blows that out to 9-12 hours to upload a single Gigabyte. - That's provided you have people leeching during that entire time as well, which isn't always the case.
And that ignores another issue of other people in your household trying to use the same connection for other tasks like uploading Youtube videos.

Like I said, maintaining a good ratio is very biased towards faster internet connections, especially connections with fast upload rates.
The fact this site has implemented other schemes to gain bonus "seed points" is a way to try and work around that very issue... But the real question begs. Is it enough? I made "do" when I had under 1Mbps of upload, now it's not longer even an issue at 40Mbps.

i would add, even if you have terrible upload: there is great value in seeding that one file you have that no-one else has (or is seeding), the amount of torrents on this site that people seem to religiously keep seeding is one of the attractive things here over certain other sites which seem to have more of a hit-n-run culture.

i guess this is one point for seedbonus: if you stay seeding the file, even if you're not uploading: you are avaliable, and that provide value to the community.

isnt the point to donate: if you have no other way to contribute to the community you download from? (cant upload, cant stay seeding…) well you can contribute some other way.

i don't mind to download something at 10KB/s, if it's 10KB/s all night and not going to leave me with half done download and no seeds coming back for weeks, or just an hour at a time or w/e

I will chime in and say that I feel the pain of each and every last member on this site who suffers from bandwidth poverty. Believe it or not, there are some areas even in first world countries like Canada where internet service is not so great to say the least. I'm in a trailer in the bush, in the middle of nowhere, with practically no neighbours. My only one neighbour is my good friend whose land my trailer is on, and whose house my trailer piggybacks off of for electricity and internet. Even their house (which is my ONLY neighbour) is a little over 200 feet from the house.

The problem out here is that we're on oldschool pre-Y2K legacy COPPER based ADSL2 service, and I am just over 5 kms from the CO. The result is that in theory, I'm only supposed to be able to get about 1.5mbit / 800kbit to a single DSL line, but for some reason, I'm able to crank my lines up to 4mbit / 800kbit. In order to get fast enough internet in the house and trailer that I can stream movies in 1080p HD, I had to have not one, but THREE DSL lines installed. I'm waiting on the installation of a 4th line now in order to get a faster speed. The four modems connect into a single router, which bonds them together using MLPPP, then shares the connection as a single line with the combined speed through a line that links that router into the main switch on the ceiling in the opposite corner of the basement. There's then a line that runs from that switch, across the basement ceiling, out the outside wall of the house, into the ground, and across the back yard underground about 200 feet to the trailer, where it then comes out of the ground again, into the trailer, and connects into my second wireless router inside the trailer.

Even at that though, I'm still rather limited in my upload speed (which comes at almost a whopping $200/mo CAD), I can only really upload at up to 60KB/s before I start noticing buffer bloat issues. So… For this reason, if your upload speed isn't so great and you've uploaded at least one torrent, I would be happy to hook you up with some SBP to help compensate for your lack of upload speed.

                      @mufum69:

I just figured out that if i make a few of my torrents freeleech I will get more than buying UL credits.
I cashed in a couple hundred bonus point and made 3 of the torrents I am seeding Free for 24 hours on a weekday of all days and I got just over 8gb of upload for them.
Cheaper than buying them for 600 points
                      :thx:

Could you please explain or elaborate? Granted, I'm new around here, but I don't understand how freeleeching boosted your ratio?

First principles- the more one uploads the better one's ration will be.

So, when I make one of the files I have the only copy of "Freeleech" it advertises that file and encourages other people to download.  Earlier in the week I did that with a 307 MB file which uploaded 9.25 GB in the 24 hours.

I have an average download speed.  This works well for the average user.

How can you transform one of your files into a Freeleech? I'm currently uploading a file and have no idea.

Apparently, the file must be more than 7 days old.  Go to the page of the download through search and click a box at the top that says "Freeleech".
It'll put the file on freeleech for 24 hours - the cost in bonus points is related to the size of the file.

                            Here's an easy example:

first row at the top is Category ie Anime Games
Second row - there's a Blue Button called "Make Torrent Freeleech!" followed by a white button that says "24 Hours for 0.072 points".
Below that - Blue Buttons that say "Download" "Wishlist"

To let you know - after you download a torrent if you go back to vote categories you recieve two bonus points.  These tiny programs are a good way to build up bonus points without spending too much on the download ration.

7 Days old? Gotcha. Is using Bonus Points on Freeleech worth it? I thought most people used their bonus points on getting more upload points.

Making something Freeleech before you download it keeps it from adding to your download while it increases your upload.  It can be a lot cheaper than saving up for upload points.
I also use Bonus points to reward people when they upload something I .

                                If I had $ I'd be donating.

                                    puts on economist hat

if you have good upload, or a seedbox… sure, it can get you more upload than buying it directly will; by attracting interest from others to download it because its "free".

but honestly, i view freeleech more as a way to "gift" a cool video: you get upload credit of course for sharing it, but the primary thing i think is it can encourage ppl to check out something that they might not otherwise have invested their precious GBs to see.

freeleeching something for the purposes of getting more upload could backfire if your upload is poor: others can just seed it instead. a seedbox will have uploaded 90% of the file already before you even connect to the peer xD

having said that, if you have good enough upload to benefit from investing in freeleech vs buying GBs, probably, you don't have ratio problems anyway in the first place and so SBP is useless except for gifting freeleeches and invites.

so yeah... if you have low raito because you have low upload: freeleeching is highly unlikely to be better than buying GBs straight up.

So far, Freeleeching the video has given me 1.2GB (instead of the 2.5GB that I could've bought), and we have six more hours or so until the Freeleech expires. What's a Seedbox, btw?

And leave the program running after the Freeleech expires so that the people who haven't finished downloading are still adding to your balance.

                                          @Zeitgeist:

So far, Freeleeching the video has given me 1.2GB (instead of the 2.5GB that I could've bought), and we have six more hours or so until the Freeleech expires. What's a Seedbox, btw?

a server with a good network connection so you can seed 24/7 with 100mbit/1gbit+ upload speeds; and/or download your torrents for you so you can just download them directly without any torrent traffic on your home connection.

for instance my home connection can only manage upload at ~2.2MB/s, but a server can do ~12MB/s, thats 1GB in 1.5 minutes (if people are actually downloading)

as i said though, if you don't break even with your freeleech seeding: just be happy to know that you shared the video so others who might have bad upload too could get it without worrying about ratio. give-a-little: get-a-little xD

I do not have access to statistics about the daily uploads count. lets say there are 200. That means all other users enjoy being members to a site that will not allow them to breath.

To correct the matter, seed points should be allocated by the number of active torrents.
