The topic of this thread reminds me of the time my cousin was scared to go in a swimming pool with some gay people because she was scared of "getting aids" in the water. About half sure she was joking. The other part is a bit iffy.. Nice girl, though.

I kinda love tormenting people who don't know any better lol…. That's a perfect example hehe...

The chlorine alone in the pool will stop any possible outbreak of any such thing. Even without chlorine, they would have to actively have an open wound that woud leak a sufficient amount of blood in which to transfer directly into another open wound on the other person's body... Just the sheer physics of it are mind boggling  :hehe:

Anyone who would think that all gay and bi men are HIV infected is obviously and idiot and probably a homophobe.

of course not. thouhh it is interesting to look at the statistics for HIV rates in your area.

I live in London and stastics suggest hiv as 1 in 7-8 in the gay community. Thats very high in comparison to most places.

But keep in mind that even 1/7 mens that 83% dont have it.

I don't think I've ever met someone who honestly believes this. It's a very old, old idea. I don't think it even survived the 90's.

You'd be amazed how ignorant a huge piece of the population is in 2016. I was having brunch with a group of co-workers on Easter and someone mentioned that they're aunt was in the hospital due to AIDS complications and a man and his wife were there and were absolutely shocked to hear that a woman had AIDS. They thought that it was literally impossible for a woman to get it, and that only gay men could get AIDS, and could only get it by having sexual contact with each other.

These are college educated adults who thought this.

Oh that doesn't suprise me at all. I my experience knowledge about HIV and AIDS is appalinglly low outside of the gay and medical community. I basically don't talk about it with straight people, as I have heard some pretty ridiculous nonsense out there. 100% true samples below:

-HIV isn't spread by sex, it is actually spread by mosquitoes (explaining it's prevalence in sub-saharan Africa)
-People with AIDs have acid-like blood that causes there muscles to "literally consume themselves"
-HIV positive people need to have seperate cutlery.

                • Couldn't be friends with an HIV+ person (um, how do you know you aren't already)

I am sure I am forgetting some gems

It truly is sad to see what some people will do and how some people will react to knowing that someone is HIV+….  I've seen some pretty jaw dropping things too...

It’s sad and hard to believe that, today, there still exists adults who are that clueless about HIV/AIDS. :afr:

Sad to say, most people in my country still see HIV & AIDs as stigma, they still believe in those myths mentioned by hw597. They say that we have one of the lowest HIV infected nation but thats because those who have it are ashamed to say they have it, fearful of what might their friends and family will say to them

Ditto, but I can imagine there's people in places like Uganda (you know, where Mr. "eat da poo poo" comes from) who honestly believe it.

Define "safe" sex… Science has shown that having sex without a condom with someone who is HIV+ but has an undetectable viral load is actually safer than having sex with a condom with a person who is HIV+ and has a high viral load. For this reason, "safe" is a matter of interpretation or perspective, given a sufficient amount of proven scientific fact.

While this a very odd way of thinking I do believe there is at least a one out of four chance that gay/bi people have HIV and don't know it.

According to Statistics Canada, approximately 65% of persons infected with HIV do not know it until the positive test result comes back. Of that 65%, 43% of those do not show symptoms of any sort.

This may be the case in North America, but on a worldwide scale, the heterosexual female accounts for the majority of HIV infections on a global scale. 🙂

Polygamy is a choice, in other words; homosexuality isn't.
