@blablarg18 In Canada, sounding or even causing an alarm to sound, whether intentional or accidental is a violation of the Criminal Code of Canada and comes with a mandatory minimum sentence. As such, it's an automatic federal (felony) offense. Under Canadian law, this would have meant game over for the guy, no matter the circumstances. While I forget the exact wording on the Criminal Code of Canada for this, it is broad enough to cover pretty much anything. This includes causing a mass hysteria by shouting "FIRE!!!" at the top of your lungs in a crowded place. In this instance, because your actions directly caused the alarm to sound or a 911 call to be made on the grounds of fire, even if by someone else's hand in response to your actions, it is still YOU who goes down. So given that this is the case, how this hasn't resulted in some serious legal drama is baffling to me as a Canadian.
