@raphjd: Mexicans in the US and the fear of offending them is a major part of why Americans get things wrong about Mexico. Most Americans learn what Cinco De Mayo is from Mexicans in America.   Even if you have been to Mexico and know it's different, you can't say anything if you are white, because that's somehow racism. White people are stuck with the stereotype of being crazy about mayo.    :cheesy2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-xDGLK3rsY

@Eridanos: @cteavin: I think we need fewer career politicians. I also think we need people in charge who run on qualifications and not personality. I fail to understand this. Aren't career politicians those who study politics and hence have the qualifications? Asking because in my country most of the new 'politicians' know zip about politics or economics, they're mostly celebrities or sons/daughters of politicians (but didn't study politics themselves) That is one side to career politicians, that some have studied politics formally. The problem is that you get people in office who are trying to protect their jobs rather than do what's right or what they promised. One way to do keep their jobs is to build alliances with special interest groups and their lobbyists. Ask the NRA has that works for them. A non-career politician might get into public office to effect some changes, like promote healthcare or fix the tax problem. They can make unpopular decisions because they're not looking to hold the office for thirty years. To that, incumbents have a higher chance of winning simply because their name is known, not because they have better ideas. A body of politicians that rotate in and out of public service engages more people to become active in politics, imho.

@flozen: @Frederick: Oh, I got it.  That reminds me of a true thing that happened to me.  Disney World typically has their Main Street Electrical Parade and fireworks every night at 9PM and then the park closes for the night.  In other words, the climax to the entire day is the fireworks show.  One time, my grandparents brought my brother and I to Disney World.  They were in their early 60's at the time, but acted like old farts.  I think my grandparents were 90 years old when they were BORN.  Anyway, even though my grandparents were fully mobile, and used to taking walks for miles and riding bicycles, etc.  They just sat around in the park while my brother and I went on rides.  I didn't complain that grandma brought nasty ham sandwiches and warm cans of soda to eat rather than go to the many restaurants in the park.  I didn't complain that they didn't let us go into any of the gift shops (in fact, my brother and I had a little money with us.. I bought a pair of plastic teeth in the magic store which was about the cheapest thing in the store).  I was having fun despite my grandparents.  My brother and I met up with my grandparents when it got dark.  The idea was that you want to get a good spot to watch the parade.  However, my grandparents had something else in mind.  Instead of finding a good place to sit for the parade and fireworks.. they headed for the EXIT of the park!  Their "brilliant" idea was to get out of the park before everyone else, and beat the traffic.  Who cares if you miss the most spectacular part of the entire day.  What my grandparents did is like having a birthday party, bringing out a cake, and then taking a massive shit on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY5NIDAW2yU Well, Mr. Frederick, I see that our hour is up.  Yes, I've been told the couch is very comfortable. Next week, let's further our discussion on how to make posts that actually belong in "Politics & Debate," and work towards channeling your unresolved, historical family issues elsewhere. If you spent as much time reading the posts as you do bitching about the posts, you would realize that the post was about Disney World having a crisis over adding Donald Trump to their "Hall of Presidents" because they are a load of moonbats. I assume you are offended by my posting of the Disney World Main Street Electrical Parade.  I thought some people would enjoy some entertainment that didn't involve huge throbbing cocks for a change.

Yes, more colorful (and disturbing) rhetoric from the little tyrant. And Trump – at least at this writing -- making remarks in South Korea that are on-point, more measured, and keep the door to diplomacy open, while still projecting U.S. strength... https://www.reuters.com/article/us-trump-asia-southkorea/at-north-koreas-doorstep-trump-warns-of-u-s-power-while-also-striking-conciliatory-note-idUSKBN1D61YG All this, a good topic for Politics & Debate.

Yup, I can verify. Over here they only showed them spooning the food to the fish. It wasn't a story at all because nothing happened. Thanks for the full video. I'm going to post it to FB.

As I already pointed out, CIS came out of the textbooks and into the mainstream as a way of abusing normative people. You can go back about 5 or so years and see it explode on to the scene and used a weapon against people whose identity matches their sex.

@raphjd: Simone Sanders said that the DNC shouldn't have white people in any positions of power, cuz "diversity". Of course she's also butt hurt about the Hispanics that vote GOP, so they really shouldn't have power in the DNC either.  Asians tend to vote GOP, so same thing with them. That means that (according to Fact-Check figures) 8% of the US population should run the DNC. According to Fact-Check, 28% of blacks vote GOP in the last few elections.   That means that of the 13% of blacks in the US, only 8% are DNC supporter. When black people vote, they tend to vote democrat.  However, with Hillary.. they didn't vote for Trump.. but instead of voting for Hilary they just didn't vote at all.  "Oh haaaaell no!  I ain't votin' fa dat wrinkled up white devil bitch!"

Property and/or sales tax states don't get to write off their state tax burdens. Northern New England states get subsidized heating, but the Midwest states don't. Southern states don't get any subsidized A/C.

@raphjd: Mentalism is the practice of using the way people naturally act and manipulation. Most magic requires manipulation.  Usually this comes in using distraction tactics. yes.. but as I will explain tomorrow.. this has nothing to do with magic.. but everything to do with manipulation.  I will add a little more information though.. In the real life situation I will refer to, it was not 99 out of 100 being eliminated (99%) but 1584 out of 1600 being eliminated (which is still 99%).  This will make more sense tomorrow…

@JohnAllenson: Under Canadian Law. 14 year olds are capable of consenting to having sex with older people - providing there is no relationship where the older person can exploit the younger one:  his teacher, his hockey coach, his boss, his doctor, his landlord (or the parents landlord.) If Kevin Spacey had asked Anthony Rapp to have sex it would have been legal under Canadian law.  They were acquaintances.  Grabbing someone, throwing them on a bed, then jumping on top of them without their prior knowledge AND consent is assault no matter what the age. Hearsay. It's possible Spacey did that but he doesn't remember it and was a drunkard at the time. Memory doesn't work like videotape. Our memories change over time. We add details, change perspectives, layer on feelings and meanings. This is one of the reasons I can not give credence to someone coming forward 30 years later to say X did Y, especially in a culture where we trust the victim first and try the alleged perpetrator without a trial. This way of conducting a trial creates a positive feedback loop for the purported victim that encourages abuse with no consequence. Here are the facts as we know them: Many people say Spacey is a dirty old man. There are plenty of images of Spacey dating younger men. One man said he picked him up and threw him on a bed and that was it. A woman came forward and said Spacey had a reputation. That's it. Unless you have a video of him doing something then he's just another person who likes people much younger than him who may or may not be lecherous. Neither is a crime. And if there were incontrovertible proof of Spacey picking up this young man there is still no crime, the statute of limitations has run out, so what is it people are expecting he do? If Spacey apologizes it should be to Rapp himself, as in, it should be a private affair. What people want is a public apology because the mob is angry and wants blood wherever it can get it. That mentality is wrong and we shouldn't encourage it.

@cteavin: http://money.cnn.com/2017/10/31/media/russia-facebook-violence/index.html These types of articles are multiplying. The investigation seems to me, in part, about not accepting responsibility for 1) blindly believing, 2) not having critical thinking skills, 3) being unwilling to admit the US is not (insert superlative) enough to chose the best candidates, 4) losing. What I have yet to hear/read is someone saying something along the lines of  "I should have checked that story my friend forwarded me on FB", or "Dammit, I should have known better" or even "Trump voters need to learn how to fact-check". Instead, "Russia made them do it" is all we're hearing. No. People made a choice because they're irrational. They're irrational because we don't value education and expect good teachers to work at retail wages while cutting funding for education programs and focusing on tests rather than the practical. In short, the US is getting what it refuses to pay for: An uneducated public without critical thinking skills. Thoughts? It's strange that almost all the "fake news" was attacking Trump.. yet the left is complaining that "fake news" cost Hillary the election.  Just what fake news was posted about Hillary?  There is so much REAL shit that Hillary did that why would someone bother to make anything up?
