I've destroyed my ratio

Yeah I’m on this journey now. Fingers crossed I can make it. Aiming to get above the ratio I need in the next 10 days….

Anyone looking for a ratio boost should go and read the whole of this thread: https://community.gaytor.rent/topic/67291/upload-ratio-help?page=1
I've given instructions there on how to use a seedbox to get a massive ratio boost, and some users in there have found some that cost as little as €6 per month. One user managed to upload roughly a whole TB in just 24 hours and completely fixed his ratio, with the rest of the month free to build up a healthy buffer.

A good way to increase ratio is to download only a few files from a new, large torrent--maybe 10% or less of the content. Those will often download quickly, and then the tracker system will hook you up (!) with other users who are looking for that material. The results can be astounding
Yep, I recently accidentaly noticed the same thing when I downloaded only a few videos of the latino torrents from streaming websites here.

Wait a minute... I thought the upload didn't count when you don't download the whole torrent

@Nbasder9 the tracker only flags you as a seeder once you download 100% of the torrent, but even if you are not "officially" a seeder, you can still contribute to other peers with the pieces you have. At any moment, even when you are still downloading the files, you can upload, and it will impact your ratio.

...and this is an excellent way of getting a lot of upload traffic. For example, I downloaded about 1% of a 30 GB torrent a couple of weeks ago, and my ratio on that torrent alone is now over 39. I should probably archive or delete that one so that others can get upload traffic from it.

I would suggest getting a seed box. I have mine set that it uploads to a ratio of 1.25 and then shuts the torrent off. Then I delete those torrents from my seed box.
-
@tiatbdna4 That sounds like a great idea for new torrents. Sometimes, though, I like to freeleech an old torrent rotting in the system with myself as the only seeder. I did that just this afternoon with an "oldie but goodie" that I though more people would like to have...and about 20 people have downloaded it today. But my ratio on that torrent was about 10, so would a seedbox prevent me from sharing it with new downloaders? I don't need the upload credit, but I'd like to be able to upload it to a few other users before I drop off the system.
I apologise if this is a dumb question, but I don't know much about seed boxes.

@eobox91103 Short answer is yes. If you're putting stuff in the seedbox (or your own client for that matter) and your intention is to keep the torrent alive rather then you would definitely want to exempt it form any auto-stop automation
I have a few on my home client that I've deleted from my personal library as I wasn't keen on them and just maintain a copy in my seeding folder. but some only show 1 (maybe 2) seeders. My ratio on a couple of them is around 2, so would have shut off with such a rule set in the client, but obviously it's better to keep them active. I check in on them once a week or so to see what state they're in, and if they get up to 10 or more seeds I'll consider dropping out.

Somehow I managed to miss out half a bloody sentence in my reply, but you get the idea.
(Only just got out of bed)

I would also add to this after I've downloaded my torrents to my computer from the seedbox I then tag those torrents with a tag indicating they've been downloaded. I can then sort them by their ratio and if they've met the 1.25 criteria they automatically stop and I simply delete them. I can also sort them by the date they were created (I guess this is a feature of bit torrent in general). I then tag those torrents with a different tag indicating what I like to call 'True Seed' if they haven't met that criteria and still need to be seeded. I then tell the seedbox to keep seeding them even if they hit that 1.25 ratio. My rationale is they are old torrents and you want them to survive over the newer well seeded ones. My seedbox is 1TB so those might linger for months even till they are seeded. Once they hit 1.25 I see if there are enough seeders otherwise depending on what it is I might keep seeding but will eventually delete it. I rarely fill up my seedbox.
I use an FTP program called FileZilla that connects to my seedbox and lists all the torrents that I then download to my computer.
The seedbox itself is run inside your web browser in a separate tab. Just like a torrent program on your computer but within the web browser. You can also download the torrents that way but it is slower and cumbersome to do that instead of using FileZilla.
I have a few other private torrent sites I go to that I use the seedbox for. You can use public trackers on the seedbox but they themselves disable seeding for the public trackers. Too bad. I always feel guilty not being able to seed back any of those torrents but I think the seedbox does that for liability reasons. Even though I've never had any issue with any torrent through the seedbox and I've had it now for 9 years.

@tiatbdna4 One thing I would say about that is that stopping them at 1.25 based on the ratio may not be the best practice, even if allowing for you secondary minimum time criteria.Depending on the torrent client being run on the SB it would be worth investigating if you add an "AND" condition to that and set it to check if there are no leechers. If there's still traffic then there's an argument for keeping the torrent active, at least within the scope of the initial purpose of the thread.
-
@frostycab Are you saying I should just seed to 1 instead of 1.25? And after it's reached the appropriate ratio I shouldn't seed if there are no leechers? My ratio is insane because I've been uploading these collection torrents for the last year and frankly I will never exceed it, so I am happy to let others seed honestly.
My SB torrent client is ruTorrent. Do you know how to set up that "AND" condition? But forgive me I'm still confused about what that is supposed to do.
