It seems that septum nose rings indicate that a person is a non-conformist.
That is why most trans get them. They are saying "I'M A NON-CONFORMIST, AND I AM IN UNITY WITH ALL THE OTHER NON-CONFORMISTS!"(not sure if that is an oxymoron or a paradox)

It's a Queer thing, which I find odd.
Queers by definition do not conform, but they have the nose ring as part of the uniform.
