      Is it possible to make any computer software for windows 10/11 to do things faster like converting a video or creating a gif image from a video? I have a 16 core cpu and I don't think assigning more cores to the applications I use on my computer will speed their processes.

        @Arago44 Yes. Google "Quantum Computers" and then wait patiently. 🙂

            @frostycab You think those will be available for consumer computers some time?

              @Arago44 no way to tell. even if it permeates to consumer devices thats decades away, at least.

              also, dont listen to the fool. [en/re]coding heaps of analogue data isnt primarily constrained by computational power. current devices are already plenty capable of dealing with it computationally, hence the iphone having no issue with 8k resolution today.

              the other constraints, primarily storage, but no less importantly bandwidth, will in no way benefit from qubits (or whatever other nonsense marketing moniker will be misplastered all over the consumer facing side). its actually extremely likely that all these issues will be exacerbated and constraints amplified by the move.

                Multi-core is very effective for video re-encoding, but only to some extent. What's even faster is a high end GPU, which as you might expect, are quite expensive, but they do speed things up considerably.

                    @ianfontinell I see. Yeah and at the moment my gpu isnt that strong AND the software I'm using that I wish to speed up some day doesn't even use gpu processing power. 😞

                      @Arago44 youre welcome.

                      dont listen to the other guy either. a top shelf gpu is utterly unnecessary, most folk get much more oomph from ensuring their pcie buses are free than upgrading their gpus (for this specific task at that level of efficiency).

                      given your circumstance, however, you should just run these tasks on an ipad. its the cheapest commercial product that is properly optimised for transcoding media, and will run circles around anything your wintel machine could do. even if you were to spend a few months of mortgage payments upgrading it into anything resembling a media editing tool.

                        There you go mr arago44, the answer to your question "is it possible to make any computer software for windows 10/11 do things faster" is: buy an ipad

                          @ianfontinell yeah, imagine that: theres only so much to be done to hopelessly ameliorate the shortcomings of an antiquated tech stack. and no amount of lipstick is ever gonna turn a buggy into a jet. even non gurus should be able to parse that.
