i like men. i like cock. and i've seen some woman that made me look twice, but i'm not sexually attracted.
sometimes i like to read m/m romance. and i've noticed that most of the fiction i've read, especially the gay romances are written by women.
and sometimes the writing is damn good. so good i've had to put the book down and jack off.
i just realized… these women authors are getting me off!
i'm not angry. just having a sort of wait-a-minute type of moment.just an observation and i wanted to share.

interesting thread. i've breezed over some of it, but i definitely am coming back to it.
there's one comment in there that i resonate with… to do with most of the m/m stuff is written by women and tends to be much more about the characters and relationship building. and the men authors, who are fewer, are focused more on the sex.
it's just, i feel like i've been given mental hand-job via the prose and all this time i considered myself a "gold-star" gay, lol

Gha ha ha I can ramble a bit about this.
But yes, go around websites like Nifty and Literotica THEN compare it with websites like Archive of Our Own and you'll see quite a difference in the average.
Like, Nifty and Literotica can and will spend paragraphs upon paragraphs to describe the most delectable / hot / passionate sex. But the longer you read the longer you'll notice that a lot of those are truly…sex-oriented. Characters leaned more towards porn archetype and two-dimensional characters are much more common there.
Ao3, meanwhile, definitely focused on relationships, feelings, and emotions. A lot featured no sex, or glossed over sex.
For me, both works on different levels. Sometimes I want to imagine scenarios, for which I'll read Literotica and Nifty, but other times I want details, exquisite details, and for that I'll go to Ao3.
And then of course a caveat: this is just the average works. The bests works on all sites that I have read are usually more balanced in both sex and romance and character development.

Well, THERE is the difference between erotic and romantic fiction -
There is a different tone of sorts depending on where I read my literature. If I wanted to just get off, I'd go to nifty. If I want to feel some intimacy, I would go to fanfiction.net and look for tragic pairings (Chris/Wesker, Cloud/Zack, Naruto/Minato, etc.). I am guaranteed to find something angsty before I even set the "Angst" genre.

I feel two ways about this. Obviously people can read and write what they want, but I wonder if that stuff misses the hardwired, lizard-brain satisfaction that I experience when having sex with another man.
