Mystique, though I liked the character better in the comic books when s/he was Intersex.  (They've retconned that Mystique had been Nightcrawler's father.)

        Faerie or aliens

Two enchanting choices!  I really wouldn't be too miffed by a little spray on my shoes.  PM me for details.  Just kidding.

THIS or THAT:  Amy Sedaris or David Sedaris, with a brief explanation.

David.  I was enchanted by his collections Squirrel Seeks Chipmucnk and Me talk Pretty One Day.  I must have seen Amy Sedaris in SOMETHING but she's left no impression.

                  Armistead Maupin or David Leavitt

                    @JohnAllenson:

I hope you have an opportunity to check Amy out in her earlier, absurd and raunchy Comedy Central work, Strangers with Candy, and that your cable provider carries TruTV, which just finished airing season 1 of her trippy show, At Home with Amy Sedaris.

And I'll pick Maupin on the (I know, expected) strength of Tales of the City.  In truth, I need to access more of Leavitt's work.

THIS or THAT:  Comedienne Kathy Griffin or Roseanne Barr?

I'm more impressed by killer abs, they seem to be a bit harder to obtain, imho.

THIS or THAT:  Boo!  The collected performances of Vincent Price or Boris Karloff?    >:D

Vincent Price.  One of the things I've been unable to find on the Internet is the Snoop Sisters.  He had fun playing a campy actor in one of the episodes,

                            Lemon meringue or key-lime

As a native Floridian I must go with Key Lime Pie, yummy tartness, graham cracker crust, and always a creamy yellow color – if it is green, you're being played.

We had a tree in our backyard when I was a wee lad.

THIS or THAT:  Front-row seats at a Las Vegas concert by Cher or Celine Dion?

Cher.  I don't care for her music but I respect the fact that she's had a good career as a singer, AND a good career as a comedy actress, AND a good career as a serious actress.  Let's face it some of the divas who would want to replace aren't capable of getting a joke much less telling one.

                                Barbra or Bette

At first my mind went to Bette Davis, and I thought it to be a strange comparison.  :faint:

In any event, I'll take Bette Midler over Babs any day.  To be fair, I have only seen Bette in person (Hello, Dolly! on Broadway last year).  Both ladies absolutely rule the stage with their presence, but I prefer the warmer, bawdier style of the Divine Miss M.

(Not that Bette doesn't have diva moments.  There was no ice allowed in our drinks at the theatre, so as not to distract from her concentration, lol.)

THIS or THAT:  New Wave-era bands ABC, or Depeche Mode?

That is a difficult one.  I like them both.  I've been trying to find the 'How to be a Millionaire' video from ABC for ages.  But I think Depeche Mode has more breadth to their music.  So, DP for 'Masters and Servants'.

Queerer New-Age bands:  Frankie Goes to Hollywood or Bronski Beat.
(Pity virtually no one knows about Tom Robinson or Pete Shelley anymore.)

Bronski Beat by a nose (today was the Kentucky Derby, which I'll be using in your other thread shortly).

For all the bombast of FGTH, I am reminded of the quiet power of certain BB songs like It Ain't Necessarily So:

By the way,'It Ain't Neccessarily So' is a cover of a Gershwin song from Porgy and Bess.  Here's Ella Fitzgerald's duet with Louis Armstrong  version from 1951.
