        @soflsmurf:

        @raphjd:

        Who knows, why am I even saying all this- fashion does start in Europe after all- the rest of us seem to follow.

        Only Europeans think that.

        Quite a bit of fashion starts in the US.

        I'm not European. How is this so? I have always seen it start in Europe, then go to the west coast, then move east in the US. All my life. I have worked in quite a fair share of retail.

        Why do the top fashion shows, and most fashion industries/designers come from Europe?

        Where is the Authority on this? lol

        If by "top fashion" you mean hideous shit no one in their right mind would wear, you are correct that it mostly comes from Europe.

        Fashion can start anywhere in the world, as board shorts, skater wear and hip hop shows.

              @Kade6767:

              So what I am asking is, why so many gay men always have to look alike, dress alike, etc.

              My favorite is… "I know that accent! I've heard it before somewhere. What part of the country is he from? Oh, wait a second..."

                Whoah whoah. Don't exclude this subject to gay men, lots of people have the problem. I'm sure my brother who has a degree in psychology could explain it better than I could but much of it boils down to needs. You have the human condition and well that speaks for a lot of it.

                  this is my response to the original post.

                  because it's part of human nature.

                  it gives you great comfort to belong to something and in order for you to belong to that something you have to be like the people in that group.

                  belonging to a group gives you a sense of security.

                  gives you an avenue to be with people you think you have lots of things in common with and a place where you can be yourself and not fear because they are also like you.

                  the reason why those things you describe are common is because they are easily recognizable and they do a lot to be recognized, they are overly-hyped and perpetuated by the media.

                  being gay is being different. true…

                  but at the end of the day, when you lie alone in your cold bed, you realize that you're just human.

                  there's no straight, gay or bi.

                  just human. just like everybody else.

                  and that's what makes it sad. (for me at least...) hehehe

                    My suggestion is that it's kind of like racism.  I personally reject racism because I'd rather take the effort to hate people as individuals instead. 🙂

                    The reason you see them as clones is that while they may share some characteristics, you have yet to examine them closely enough to discern the differences.  I suspect that a little conversation could be just as helpful as genetic testing to expose them as distinct, unique individuals, and not clones.  Of course, they may be interchangeable in many areas, but I would consider it shallow to think of them as all the same.

                    You will find the same sort of thing in many other environments, including, for example, sports bars, where the majority of the patrons are supporting the same team, often wearing the same team colours and uniforms, chanting the same slogans, and cheering in unison, as if they were synchronized robotic automatons.

                    As far as "What's wrong with a regular bar", in many of them, you could be putting your life in danger if you kiss another fellow, or even do something as explicit as holding hands, or looking at each other the "wrong" way.  Some people find it enjoyable to be able to relax, and act on their feelings without having to self-censor every action, thought, and deed.

                    Oh, and that uninhibited sex behind a building may be interpreted by law enforcement types as lewd conduct in a public area, which has the potential of getting you confined in a locked room (with walls, or bars), and they may not be terribly quick to react should some of the other people in said locked room choose to act in an uninhibited way that may or not have your consent.

                    [you], are you staring at my crotch?
