Just a theory on why AI porn is so popular
-
After watching a few AI series I believe it carries a lot of potential because it brings 3 key elements together:
- democratization of writing & directing opportunity
- allows for complex/expensive production design with a very minimum budget
- for once good acting is finally an option, actors seem like a legit part of the narrative
IRL porn is very expensive, shootings usually take one or two entire days for a 20-30 minutes scene, things like production value and acting are disfavored in detriment of the production cost. AI overcomes all those limitations and makes it possible to bring elements that are impossible IRL productions.
Let me know what you think, if there's anything you'd like to add.

@ianfontinell For myself, I am a little mixed on the topic. While AI can be great for creating scenes that are rather arousing to say the least, some of the AI content still appears to be AI. My mood at the time is also a huge factor on whether or not it will do it for me.
I definitely see the potential to AI though. It is possible to create scenes that are rather realistic looking on the most part, without actually having to do any kind of harm to anyone. It'll be interesting to see how the world of AI evolves over the next few years.

@MrMazda what I'll say is a bit unrelated to this topic itself but fuck it, I'm not really sure if I want it to get as good as that, to a point where there is no practical distinction between AI and real life. I know it is inevitable, though.
We know porn is fantasy, to me AI videos and professional productions have the same potential, in the sense that they are both instantly recognizable. When AI get past this, possibly I will get anxious watching anything whatsoever. Specially if it is something that I find extremely hot and niche, I'll go "yeah it's probably just AI".
There are 2 kinds of fantasy, one that brings suspension of disbelief, you're aware that it is not real but it doesn't matter, you can still enjoy it. And there's the full believability fantasy, where you immediately assume it is real, even when it is not. Amateur porn gets to the latter more easily, but once AI overcome this, if everything look the same, it will be much harder to be easily drawn, I'll go from assuming everything I find super hot is real (as in not fabricated), to assuming everything I find hot is definitely fabricated.

@ianfontinell Yeah.. Once upon a time, it was "Oh that's totally Photoshop" but these days, it's all "Oh that's totally AI" haha
How times have changed.

@ianfontinell Yeah.. Once upon a time, it was "Oh that's totally Photoshop" but these days, it's all "Oh that's totally AI" haha
I am not interested in the casual set up porn, I like the "friends" and the shyness/awkwardness of real humans
However i view AI porn as an interesting novelty. I am not going to get aroused by it. But i like the out of the world scenarios and exaggeration it can bring. However I do not like the ones that fake themselves as real people - Be upfront tell us its AI, We've had drawings, 3d renders and photoshop prior to now lets not be deceitful

@ianfontinell I think with anything AI the main appeal is the limitless possibilities. You can literally make anything, as long as you have the vision for it. Want to see a hung top with double dicks solo DP-ing a bottom? Go for it! Always wanted to make realistic tentacle porn of your favourite game/anime characters? You absolutely can! Or maybe a no-gravity gay orgy on a spaceship? Hell yeah!
I have two main gripes with current AI porn. The obvious first one is the difficulty of distinguishing erect/flaccid penises, and it can get quite bad during blowjob and penetration shots. These video creation models need a lot more—and better—training data to fix this. Though, the executives on these AI companies are generally pretty prudish when it comes to sexual stuff because of how easily it gets misused, so fingers crossed for this one.
The second is continuity. I can go on and on about this, but personally the biggest perpetrator is clothes suddenly appearing and disappearing in the middle of sex, which can really take me out of it because of just how jarring it is. This is on the creator, because they could’ve been more selective (regenerate problematic scene) instead of just leaving it to stick out like a sore thumb. Doing that probably costs them more money, but hell, if they're going to monetize their content the least they can do is give people decent quality and effort (this sounds rich coming from someone mooching off a porn torrent site, I know, but my point still stands).
-
@eusanderse I haven't dived deep enough to spot those continuity mistakes, but considering that a few years ago it was impossible to even have consistent characters without their traits changing completely on each scene, so I'm bit more forgiving. And you probably have noticed that continuity errors are just as frequent in professional porn and it can be just as annoying.
What you said about soft/hard dicks is very true also, one of my first observations as well, which is intriguing because I doubt the training data was comprised of just semi erections, idk you're probably more familiar with the technicalities than I am.
-
@ianfontinell I don’t know if you’ve watched, but let’s use codynextdoor for example. A few continuity errors off the top of my head are:
- face / body shape changing: Rick / Cody’s dad can be really buff one scene and lot less in the next one when he wears clothes. The mom looks older with short hair and when she wears the nurse outfit she’s a lot younger with longer ponytail, looking like a completely different person (but who cares about her, right? Though, poor her for having Rick as a husband. The guy is a cheating creep)
- environment: the shower scene after dodge ball game, notice how the shower stall is different each shot. Then the private sauna room, at one point the sex moved from the seat to literally on top of the hot coals
Also, a bedroom scene from episode 2 suddenly adds an extra bed in front of the one Rick and Cody is on (nonsensical background is pretty common in Stable Diffusion too, because these AIs can’t actually think)
Probably just being too nitpicky with those and they don’t bother me as much as appearing/disappearing clothes, but they’re fun to notice.
I won’t say I’m that knowledged, but I assume for video generation models they must've fed actual porn footages into the training data considering how good the close up penetration scenes are, but not enough to get the erections consistent. To be fair, a lot of image generation models also struggle with getting erect cock to look right without the help of LORAs, and those are always made by the open sourced community like Civitai, not the company who made the models. -
I have no idea if I've ever watched any AI porn or not. I'm usually so off my face on poppers that I get a blind spot in the middle of my vision and can't see any detail in what I'm watching.

Those AI [Vertical Drama] Gay story [fictional character] that has been posted here rated R only are good and story is touchy and cute

Give it a shot ...

I think humanity is proving we "sense" the difference.

I’ve seen good AI porn but those vertical dramas are about the last thing I’ve liked. Are gay men even the target audience? It seems like a lot are made by women and follow the plots of those romance novels that are mostly aimed at women readers. Just like how in Japan, bara is mostly made by men for men while yaoi/boys love is overwhelmingly made by women for women but is men-men. And yaoi/boys love is magnitudes bigger than bara since the pool of women is 5x the pool of gay men.
Personally, I find those vertical dramas to be one step up from a soap opera: the same derivative plot, just make the top a cowboy or a vampire or a prince. And the bottom is usually some muscle hunk who hasn’t come to terms with his identity or is shy/self-concious, bullied, has repressed magical powers. Once you peel the first layer of the onion, you realize they can churn them out so quickly since the plots are large formulaic. They have their audience, sure, but I would have guessed it’s the same crowd who loved written erotica. I’m also odd though since I don’t like Heated Rivalry and generally find porn with lots of drama to be exhausting.
I also think AI porn still hasn’t mastered the “soulless” dilemma. I can understand the appeal: the men are all equally ripped, have flawless features, they can all be princes, and have that glitter glow. But the sex looks odd, there’s ass cheeks that don’t bounce, boring dialogue that would make Men.com blush (“oh yeah baby, fuck me harder”), you get the occassional physics that doesn’t work (an asshole looks like a vagina, the dick goes in and out in unnatural ways), the faces always look WAY too similar. I think perfection also triggers the uncanny valley effect since that too is abnormal. Men don’t look perfect and 10 men all being perfect just seems…not normal.
Which isn’t to say real porn is good. It’s been a decade of decline, the industry has moved away from new boy-next-door types in the 2000s like Corbin Fisher, Randy Blue and Sean Cody to “star power” and retreading the same 25 actors over and over. The plots are also incredibly dull or make use of silly props to substitute shock value for quality (see “in front of my salad” meme).
Overall, AI has a ton of potential and will likely be 90% of content in a decade, and I use it to generate images of men with bodies that would be physiologically impossible already, but for video, I find it really lacking as of now and am shocked that 1,000 people will snatch any AI video longer than 5 minutes when I still think the best gay human porn is so much better but might get 5% of that.
But that’s now. In the future, AI will zoom ahead. I think the fall off in real porn though is the real reason for the sudden thirst for something new so maybe having some fun competition will push actors/OF/studios to be more creative. People like Reno Gold who spent a year jacking off for $50/month or whatever are going to be completely unmarketable when you can easily generate a guy doing that in minutes for $1.

Thank you mr rainbow

@Rainbow69 Agreed! I always had difficulty enjoying silly plotted porn like Men.com because those are just insulting the audience. Like, what do you mean you can't see two guys fucking behind a see-through curtain right in front of you and not hear them moan? I get the intent was to be jokey, but c'mon... those are just so ridiculous.
Would be really cool if studios can incorporate AI to their production, since imitating references had always been AI's strong suit. They could have the performers do the scenes, then sort of rotoscope the footages with the magic of AI. Ideally they can keep the performers faces if they consent, so their facial expressions can be referenced too to make the end result not look like slop. One can only dream, though maybe it's not too far from reality at this point
