@ianfontinell Reasonable point, though I suspect the category was envisaged more to talk about media programs than to share things personally created by members.

As a workaround, have you tried to rename its filetype - i.e "cleverprogramby.me" or is the system smart enough to spot that? If it did let you, you simply put in the description that once downloaded, it needs to be renamed to a ".exe".

Other opinions are also available. They're not right, obviously, but they are available.

@Kevin4fm it is a program, it is for media files, i guess it doesn't matter who made it

Once again I'd like to remind everyone that it's not mandatory that you speak.

@ianfontinell My point was there is a difference between TALKING about media programs, and actually .... oh. Hold on. I need stronger coffee. I was thinking about forum categories, not upload categories. Apologies. Yeah, that does suddenly seem extremely odd!

Maybe tag Joker here so he sees this sooner rather than later?

              Hi all,

thanks for raising this. Until now Media Programs could not take a program at all: .exe is blocked everywhere, and archives were only allowed in Comics, Images and Books. That is changed as of today: in Media Programs you can now upload programs packed as .zip or .7z. Plain .exe (and .rar) stay blocked there, so pack your tool into a .zip or .7z and describe what it does and how to run it.

Please only share tools you made yourself or that are free to share, and expect members to scan anything they download.

@Joker let's see if it was a good idea 😅

@Joker Just a quick question (as I know this matters to many people)... Does a program that is almost exclusively vibe coded still count as something that you made, and if so, is there any official guideline on whether or not there needs to be mention of any vibe coding (even just as a general statement) of an app that gets uploaded?

I have a few tools that I've created that would be handy to share with the community, but for some of them, certain parts are vibe coded, and in the case of one of the apps in particular, pretty much the entire thing was exclusively vibe coded, including all debugging.

@MrMazda here in Brazil, food companies are obligated to stamp a symbol in the package to indicate if a product is transgenic or irradiated. I have always thought that the only purpose this law serves is to cause panic in the population, because our human brain will associate the mere necessity of having those warnings as something that is inherently harmful, when that is absolutely not the case.

Your question reminded me of that law, although I believe that voluntarily announcing which parts of it were vibe-coded would be cool, but making it a requirement or treating it differently solely because of that, not great.

                      @ianfontinell Haha....

Yes... I tend to be VERY up front about what is and is not vibe coded in my work. Some people are super paranoid about vibe coding, largely because they do not understand how to use it properly, and they don't know even the basics of coding. They assume that all people who use this practice do so to be lazy and will just half assedly throw together the whole thing and hope and pray that it works.

I however may start with the vibe coded starting point, then tinker with it, or at least give it a read so that I can understand what EXACTLY it does, and to ensure that there's nothing found within the code that would cause me to take issue. This is why having at least a basic understanding of coding is so important when vibe coding. Blindly taking vibe coded material without any actual human oversight is potentially just as dangerous as just pulling some random person's code off of the internet and blindly trusting it.

I may vibe code a lot of my stuff, but I do so because vibe coding the framework, then tinkering with it as necessary can take what would normally take me months to do and cut it down into a matter of only days or weeks instead. It's not that I'm lazy... It's that I found a way to make it WAY more efficient to do so.

There's a difference between saving time, and being both lazy and stupid.

I have nothing against vibe-coding and if you put it in another perspective no person logically should have a problem with it. Why can a tradesman use a tool that makes his life easier but a software developer cant.

I myself am looking to vibe-code my own media manger so it can serve my needs and hobby.

What I do have a problem with is vibe-code software not being on github, It won't 100% prevents leaks of malicious code but it would help mitigate things.

What I do find confusing is that people complain about complex AI code, but I cant imagine you not able to say that the code needs to be human readable, variables logically named and functions to have notes.

Im curious to what other tools you guys have.
