Unable to download, "Too many torrents" "Bad Ratio"?

I'm not sure why it's saying this for me because I am nowhere near the number of my torrent limit. And my ratio is fantastic. I found a few posts about it, but there's no clear answer. Apparently it was an old system glitch?

@jwjackson10 It looks like you have a number of torrents for which you have not downloaded 100% of ALL the files. When this happens, the system will only register you as leeching the torrent, which makes it count against your maximum number of simultaneous downloads, which is a separate limit from the number of torrents you can download in a day.
To fix this, you need to stop these torrents, then wait for them to time out on the server side to free up the download slot.

@MrMazda I'm having the same issue but my account says I'm download 2 and 0 upload, but my client qbittorent has only 1 torrent stalled. I get the message "Bad ratio: 0.868 (Too many torrents... Your current limit is 8 at the same time..."

@topgymrat I just did an account reset of a sort for your account that should fix this issue, as I don't see anything on your profile that would limit your downloads.

Just a quick note that may help anyone with similar problems. Always stop all your torrents BEFORE you close your client. This helps the tracker better understand what is and isn't actually seeding/leeching. That should solve a lot of problems people are having.

@mwild It doesn't look like you're still running into the issue, but I have done the account reset of a sort for you anyway as it can't hurt.
Also, just be aware that when you stop a torrent in your torrent client, it can take up to 45 minutes for the torrent to time out on our end, and until it does, the torrent will still be counted in your total number of active torrents.

To add to this tip... Always STOP your torrent(s) before deleting them. This can prevent crashes, errors, locked files, etc.

I think I'm having the same issue, I do have some torrents that I didn't download all files on, like a 300 gb+ torrent of MadridGloryhole for example which I only have some selected files, I can't delete it since it does upload on some peers and help my ratio. Please help me too, I had to Google this issue and found this thread

the site owner made changes to this recently, idk how much of the tips are still true. One of the changes was that stalled torrents no longer consume download slots. That is, you can have let's say 20 partial torrents active in your client, as long as they are stalled (no bytes being transferred) they should not prevent you from starting new downloads.
perhaps @joker could clarify if this still holds.

Clearing this one up properly, because the answer has changed since this thread started and the old advice is still being repeated.
Two different things are stuck together in that message. It opens with "Bad Ratio" and then says "Too many torrents". The ratio part is just information, it is not the reason you were turned away. The reason is the second half: the number of torrents you can download at the same time.
What counts towards that limit changed back in June. It is no longer every unfinished torrent. A torrent only occupies one of your slots if it has actually pulled data in the last 45 minutes. Stalled torrents do not count. Partial downloads, where you picked the files you wanted and nothing is moving any more, do not count either.
@Shyguy00 that means the 300 GB one you only took part of is not costing you a slot, as long as it is not actively downloading. You do not need to delete it, and you should not, it is earning for you.
One thing that does still confuse people: the leeching list on your profile counts differently from the tracker. It lists everything that is not at 100 percent, so the number you see there is bigger than the number that can actually block you. When those two disagree, the tracker is the one making the decision.
Two practical bits, and @Dracula975 had both of these right further up:
Stop your torrents before closing your client. A client that just disappears leaves the tracker guessing.
After you stop something, give it up to 45 minutes to clear on our side.

@heiheihei333 I believe what @Joker explained works the same for everyone by default, not something that was done for one individual member.
If you're facing a similar issue - being unable to download new torrents because you have no download slots available - it may be worth double checking things are as you think they are.
For example, are you aware there's a daily download limit? This varies member-to-member based on a combination of things like your ratio, whether you've donated recently, how many new torrents you've uploaded, and how many you're seeding. I don't recall what it is, but it's pretty high. I don't think I've ever hit mine, and there have been times when I've downloaded an awful lot in one day.
If you know that's not the cause, and you believe you're not subject to any bad ratio restriction, try pausing all those partially downloaded torrents where you've grabbed what you want, so only those that are active right now are still running. Give it an hour, then see if you can download new stuff. If it then works, you can restart your paused torrents - I'd suggest in small batches - and see if the problem has been cured or if it returns. If it does, you can at least then give a lot more information about your own situation which should help identify where the problem might lie in your particular case.
