TorBox - or other multi-hosters (or other sort of VPN alternative?)
-
I use Proton VPN, they are always making sales and special offers throughout the year.
-
@ianfontinell Does Proton support port forwarding? I only ask as I'm trying to gather a list of VPN providers that support port forwarding.
-
@MrMazda it offers 1 random port each time you connect, has dedicated P2P servers in 141 countries.
-
@ianfontinell Perfect. ONE port is all you really need, unless you are using more than one torrent client on the same device.

I used to use vpn but was worried I would get banned if another member is on the same vpn
Would compiling a list not make the chance of someone using the same service higher?
-
on a side note if you go the vpn route and use docker check out gluetun
it has built in functionality for various providers to grab the public ip/port and update your client etc

this can still happen without a VPN, if your ISP don't provide you a dedicated IP. But the anti-cheat system takes more than just the IP into consideration before flagging a user.
Another thing is that, the provider I suggested alone has more than 2.500 assignable IPs. I'll risk taking this information out of my ass but I think two users are more likely to share an IP address if they have the same ISP and don't use a VPN, than they would connecting to the same VPN.

Seedboxes are really cheap and, in my experience, very reliable. For uploading and initial seeding of any uploads they are essential. I get about 60 MB/s up which I only rarely max out. I only download locally files I am genuinely likely to watch on more than one device. I have 1.5TB of cloud storage which is split 50/50 between Plex and this and similar sites. Having Plex on a seedbox means that my own net usage isn't affected by friends and family streaming. I mainly use for Plex (for me, family and friends). Also when I am travelling I don't have to worry about things at home not working for some silly reason. The seedbox is either up or down. If it is down, it is quickly up again. In the last 5 years there have been a few very short outages which I only know about from apologies on their website. I know this little streaming heaven isn't going to last much longer but at just 8 euros a month unchanged for the last 5 years I am truly delighted.

We have internal systems that will show when someone is using a VPN to access the site/using a seedbox. We have other metrics we evaluate to determine if someone is abusing using multiple accounts.
I've been having trouble with my VPN raising prices and started looking at alternatives.
It seems like multi-hosters (https://github.com/debridmediamanager/awesome-debrid) are all the rage now, the problem being that most of them don't seem to play well with uploading/private-trackers
I've seen that at least one, TorBox, does seem to try to upload and support private trackers -- https://support.torbox.app/en/articles/10031226-what-private-trackers-are-allowed
The one issue I could see causing an issue is that you'd have to use the unique IP add-on they mention (but doesn't show up on their subscription page).
Are there ones that are recommended/supported here? Or are there better VPN's (most don't seem to support port-forwarding)
I'd like to keep using this site, are there other alternatives that people are using (e.g. VPS/seedbox?)
All our tracker metrics are attached to your specific PassKey.
I cannot tell you explicitly that TorBox would/would not work as I do not have personal experience with them. I can however say that a seedbox MAY cause some flags on our end that could impact Downloading/Uploading until they are investigated and cleared by a specialized moderator

You don't get banned right off the cuff for having a duplicate account. Sometimes our system does get things wrong and will flag a user with a VPN for having duplicate accounts in error, but this is not very common, AND in the event that it does happen, you are able to contact helpdesk and explain your situation to get an actual human to look things over. If we see what looks like a VPN user who has been flagged in error, there are ways that we can undo the restrictions that the duplicate account system will impose when it flags an account.
