404 Error logging in -
-
I’ve been getting a 404 error about half the time I try and login, the address is http://gaytor.rent/takelogin.php. Anyone else having an issue?
-
Yes... me too... for the past 4-5 days... lots of 404's.
To log in I now have to go to the forum pages and login from there... and enter 6 digits as well.
Not sure why it's changed. -
Got 404 a couple of times recently, but trying again got me in.
Got 404 just opening a page in a new tab (while logged in) but refreshing worked.
Bugs are definitely to be expected when changes are being made over time.
Have not encountered a situation that I could definitively duplicate and document, but if one comes up it may help to report it to Staff.

i'm having tons of 404's too
-
@robertlondon Yes, this is how I’m able to login as well.
-
Yes, a handful of 404s over the initial week of the remodeling, but now they are gone -- I may never know who squashed this bug, but thanks.
(I will say, my login page no longer auto-fills my name/password -- or at least, I believe it did on this site at one time! Anyone with similar experience? A minor situation, I may ask the Helpdesk, and not the end of the world.)

Not sure if its the same thing, but I'm getting 404'd when I click links... and my login has timed out
The forum login & the torrent login appear to be different. So, even if you can read/post forums, if there is a link to a torrent - and you've timed out on that part of the site, you may get 404'd.
It'd be nice if the system took you to a login page (if you were not logged in) and showed the 404 ONLY if the page really didn't exist, but I don't know how hard that would be - I'm not a web guy, just a user (and a happy one with most of the new changes to the site!)

It seems our server needs some precussionary maintenance.
For those of you who don't know, precussionary maintenance is the technical term for smacking something until it works.
-
On the admin side, there is no real reason for you to be getting 404 errors.
As @MrMazda said, the servers could just need a smack.

After a long investigation of our log files I found a missing setting in our proxy server. Some buffers to retrieve headers were just too small. This came into play because I changed the authentication for the new forum.
It should not happen anymore from now on.
sorry folks
