That is because it is no longer hosted on the home page. To get to the chat page, click on chat on them menu bar, Then click on the blue AJAX IRC chat button.

I am having the same issue the AJAX IRC Chat button doesn't work for me…..

The display described by the topic opener in the initial post is actually the AJAX IRC Shoutbox normal message when joining it.
That there is no other messages is due to the shoutbox now being less populated. The white field at the very bottom of the window is to enter own messages (hit enter to post it).

They better damn well make a poll asking for the chatbox back. You don't kill free speech or make it inconvenient just cause people were being tards.

I completely agree with that point Fisto… The trouble is that it wasn't because people were being tards that the chat box was removed. There was an underlying potential security issue with the chat box for reasons that I am not at liberty to divulge. I know it's inconvenient to have the chat box taken down, but for the current moment, it was the easiest way to be down and dirty with making sure that the security of the site and our users is maintained in the meantime.
