First, attempt to figure out what your family think of gay people.
If they are open minded then tell them what would they feel if a relative would be gay.
Depending from their answers, you proceed accordingly.

it's difficult to do because it's something you'll just know how to do when you're comfortable enough with yourself, but it's hard to get comfortable with yourself and your sexual orientation without acceptance from others.

i started with a guidance counselor at my school, then told some close friends, and then told my family a while after that.  my experience was a little more difficult because my family is very religious and a bit bigoted.  to be perfectly honest, we don't have the best relationship now, but it is nice to be able to live my life without the fear of them finding out, now.

There's no right way to do it. The only person in my family who knows is my mother, and I have about 3 friends that know. I think really you just tell people that you trust and on a need-to-know basis. Don't try to tell everyone at once.
