Also, would be nice if you could expand on the idea of making a torrent freelech. How does it work?

If your ratio falls below the minimum shown in your profile the grace period is the time the site will allow you to continue as usual until your download rights become limited. It gives you time to improve your ratio.
Freeleech is very simple. If there is a box at the top of the torrent page which says 'Make this torrent freeleech' you can use your bonus points to 'buy' a freeleech period starting at 24 hours. Then everyone including you can download without it counting and with a bit of luck you will upload as well to improve your ratio.
You'd be amazed how quickly a torrent can go from no-one about to dozens of connections within a short period
