It gives you time to improve your ratio.

Freeleech is very simple. If there is a box at the top of the torrent page which says 'Make this torrent freeleech' you can use your  bonus points to 'buy' a freeleech period starting at 24 hours. Then everyone including you can download without it counting and with a bit of luck you will upload as well to improve your ratio.

You'd  be amazed how quickly a torrent can go from no-one about to dozens of connections within a short period 🙂
