@Devken: And this is why you don't want conservative christians religious fundamentalists dictating laws, this is why the law should be based on secular and humanist principles. El Salvador has a problem. Absolutely.

@Frederick: @aadam101: Why hasn't Trump locked her up? I guess he was just saying all that stuff to get gullible people to vote for him.  It worked. He might still.  He's being a nice guy right now.  A moonbat would never let anybody off the hook for anything.  Trump is being an extremely good sport. As Mae West used to say, "Goodness had nothing to do with it." It just is not politically advantageous to do so right now.  I agree with you, Frederick that he may in the future, especially if he needs to shore up his base.  There is such deep-seated hatred of her in some groups that goes back 30 years.  Trump knows he can pump that well whenever he wants. P.S.  I am impressed with your cooler tone, and I thank you for that. But at the risk of asking too much, how hard would it be to call us liberals or leftists instead of "moonbats?"  We all know of your disdain.  You don't need to use a deprecative noun in every post.

@mhorndisk: Your assertion is meaningless. It's the report authors' assertion — not mine. To the extent that their assertion and report were both evidently meaningless to you, I have no doubt.

I think it was clear from its formation that this commission was going to validate Trump's allegation and use it to support voter suppression in the very states that gave Hillary her plurality.  Can you imagine a group chaired by Mike Pence doing anything else?  the greatest privilege of his life is serving the president.

@flozen: @Devken: @pppucci: "When you're Vice-President, you can do anything–Grab'em by the nuts!" … and bolts. pppucci and Devken, you share honors for funniest photo caption of the day.      And tip of the hat to sutieday for topic generation. Once I heard that Pence, in younger days, had experience pulling on big levers, but I credit that to the despicable liberal rumor mill, of course.   ::) I bet his lever is tiny. ;D

@raphjd: @pppucci: @raphjd: They have requested, names, addresses, partial SSN, party affiliation and voting history Unless the states are doing something illegal, then they have no idea who you voted for. Australia has mandatory voting and your voting record (not who you voted for) is shared within the government because you are denied benefits and can be sent to jail for not voting. I don't care if anyone knows I normally vote Democrat. Liberals love that CNN is threatening to dox a person over a meme, but hate the idea of illegal voters being faux doxed. I never meant to imply that voting history meant who you voted for.  It just means what elections you did cast votes.  How does that history relate to vote fraud beyond the information if the person in question ever voted.  Actually, I don't that voter suppression, even the suppression of illegal voting is the prime motivator in seeking this information.  They are looking to use it politically, and develop a huge database of party affiliation, who are the most motivated voters, who votes in primary elections, etc.  This will put them on firm footing going into 2020 to direct their campaigns ans spend their advertising dollars efficiently..  I have a strange feeling that they will not share the raw data with the Democrats.  It is just conjecture on my part, but even if it is partially true, it would mean the federal government is being used to further the cause of one political party. One of the cases of illegal voting in Texas came about through a random check of voting records.    An ex wife had her son vote as the dad, because she didn't want to waste his vote.   The son was 17yo.   Anyway, turns out the dad does vote.     So voter records caught an illegal vote. Same thing with the illegal woman who voted, also in Texas.  She got caught through the same random voter record check.   The same woman voted in several places.   Turns out the real woman was a victim of identity fraud and illegal women were using her name/identity. Let's flip this and say it was Obama or Hillary who wanted to do it.   I'm sure you'd support it and claim that everyone who disagreed was a conspiracy theorist. Also, like with the EPA, there are plenty of regulations and laws surrounding voter's rights and records, so nothing bad will happen.    :blind: Your examples are notable for the singular case in each.  The concept that these types of violations will add up to millions of votes has been challenges by almost every Secretary of State and those that study the problem.  And again, you are making that "show on the other foor" assumption.  I would object if Hillary, Obama, Bernie or the Pope asked for this information.  There already is far too much personal information stored centrally.  This will only confound the problem. It will also make Russian mischief easier.

@Frederick: @sutieday: The director of the independent Office of Government Ethics, who has been the federal government’s most persistent critic of the Trump administration’s approach to ethics, announced Thursday that he is resigning nearly six months before his term is scheduled to end. Walter M. Shaub Jr. repeatedly challenged the Trump administration, publicly urging President Trump to fully divest from his business empire and chastising a senior Trump adviser for violating ethics rules. His outspokenness drew the ire of administration officials and earned him near-cult status among Trump’s opponents. Fans started a Facebook page in his honor, and his name has occasionally appeared on posters at anti-Trump protests. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/federal-ethics-chief-who-clashed-with-white-house-nnounces-he-will-step-down/2017/07/06/4732c308-624c-11e7-a4f7-af34fc1d9d39_story.html Virtually nobody ever heard of Walter M. Shaub Jr. until AFTER he announced he was stepping down.  The moonbats detect a drop of blood in the water and they react like piranhas. I don't think there is even a drop of blood in the water.  He left 6 months early to pursue a career in the private sector.  I don't think anyone is blaming Trump for that.  From that WaPo artice, " In an interview, Shaub said he was not leaving under pressure, adding that no one in the White House or the administration pushed him to leave. "

@mhorndisk: No, it's not. This is the kind of post that shows you are not open  to debate.  But your original post implied hypocrisy on the part of those calling for civility on this board while not criticizing a play about a Roman Emperor who is betrayed to resemble Trumo. What does one have to do with the other? Even if there was rioting on the streets, we can treat each other with respect here.

@Frederick: @pppucci: Her husband, Sid Williams is an ex-NFL star. Sigh..here we go again… Her husband Sid Williams did play football.. 50 years ago.  he was hardly a star.. and back in those days, football players weren't paid squat, especially black ones.  He is most famous for speaking out in defense of Cassius Clay for being a draft dodger.  Interesting that Cassius never spoke out against the Vietnam War or OTHER people being drafted until AFTER he was drafted.  Muhammad Ali had no problem bashing in people's brains with his fists, but didn't want to get in any fight that he might get hurt. In his entire NFL career, Sid had 1 touchdown, 1 interception, 1 recovered fumble.  He played a total of 70 games.  I'm pretty sure that if my grandmother played football, she would have better statistics than that. Sid then went on to be a car salesman for 15 years.. then went on to be the ambassador to the Bahamas for 8 years.. and apparently has been sitting his ass on the couch for the past 19 years.    So again.. where did Maxine Waters get that $4.3 million? I willgrant you all that, but if you go to the celebrity net worth site, they list his at $600,00.  That of course, does not consider income, which would be private information.  Also Maxine listed the value of her home at 1.4 million on her financial disclosure form in 2016.  Not that it makes much difference.  I am not defending her views, which I think are too extreme, but I will defend her right to live where she wants, even in a

@royalcrown89: President Obama is not being considered for another Nobel Peace Prize. It's something the alt-right has come up with to try to distract us from our current president's historical low approval, and it's sad. It is not only a distraction.  The only thing that unites such groups with a nihilistic view of the word is opposition to someone.  There is very little positive about their agenda.  It is all about keeping people out of our country and overturning the accomplishments of the last administration.  That's why they keep bringing up Hilary.

@mhorndisk: Here's an idea. I will declare that the President was unpresidential in his tweet, if you admit that CNN lied, instead of conveniently ignoring that and pointing the finger at him. Admit they lied. I doubt you can do it. I doubt you can actually say CNN lied, when they did, and admitted it, and fired three reporters over it. Did I ever deny that CNN retracted a story that was poorly sourced, did not meet its own standards and fired the reporters.  Ok they lied.  How does that give the president the right to virtually punch them out?  They retracted the story, and fired the employees.  What do you want? A firing squad? And no matter what you think of me, I have never been resistant  to accepting known facts, or as Carl Bernstein puts it, "The best obtainable version of the truth." I don't need to accept that Obama is the devil's whore just because you believe it.  Even if you had something back that up with, that characterization is your opinion.  As far as I know, there is no National Devil's Whore Registry.
