As his Brother, can you gauge what his reaction will be based on what you know of him.  I was unlucky and lucky when It came to my Dad, Unlucky because he died young before I came out, but lucky as I know he would have thrown me out of the house and never spoken to me again, he was that sort of a guy when it came to being gay.  As it happened my Mother found it hard and I left home within 6 months and went 5 years without speaking to her, now we have the best relationship ever and my stepdad who is actually my dad's brother is fine and has no issues, so for me it turned out fine in the end. What about the rest of the family, Mum, grandparents, siblings, etc.  Could he come out to them first to get them on his side, and what exactly is the issue, fear of rejection, disappointment.  At the end of the day your Nephew has a life that only he can live and sometimes we have to make big sacrifices in order to live that life, even if that means we have to walk away from friends, family and loved ones to live that life and be true to ourselves.

The young folks should spend time exercising and growing the most important "muscle" of all –- the brain.  But that's too much work for many folks.
