I keep mine trimmed. I hate when it's fully bushed out, but I don't like being totally shaved for a number of reasons.
Basically I use a #2 guide on a cordless beard trimmer for the bulk, and I have found that those micro-trimmers are fantastic for mowing down the scragglers at the root of my cock and on my sack without nicking.

I totally shave my ass though! I love the smooth feeling of it! I've developed so much confidence in doing, I can do it with my eyes closed! Advice, use a triple or more blade razor, Gillette works pretty darn fine!

Shaving for me leads to some skin irritation, but trimming with a machine, on the other hand, is more likely to cut me.
I usually let hair grow for a while, down there, because it's not much a problem for me (more much itch on back/chest/belly than the pubes), so I shave every 2-3 month… -
I recently shaved my butt, balls and penis for the first time. It left the skin around my butt and dick irritated, but after that it felt nice. The hair grew back in a few days, though. I think that I'll just shave my balls and trim everything else instead from now on. It seems like too much effort.

I don't usually shave, I just trim with a machina down there from time to time. Prevents irritation.
