Torrents with few seeders forever stalled
-
@BannonHarpsi Yup. I assume you don't have port forwarding enabled. Without getting into complicated details, at least one person in a swarm has to have it. If neither you nor the seeder has, what happens is exactly as you describe.
Do you use a VPN? If not, you should be able to configure port forwarding for yourself, though you're obviously taking a certain risk torrenting without one.
If you do use a VPN, does yours offer port forwarding? Many don't. Some do at a premium. If yours does, configure it. If there's an option to add it, decide if you want the download(s) enough to pay any additional costs. If yours just doesn't offer the facility, seriously consider changing provider when you next get the opportunity.
A workaround, if you do use a VPN, consider turning it off for just those few torrents where you meet this problem. That's what I did for a few, before I got my port forwarding sorted. For a little security, I used a completely different client just for those torrents. It mostly worked. I was able to immediately seed three torrents to another member who had been trying to leech for ages. Unfortunately, for some reason I wasn't able to grab the one I actually wanted. So I guess there can be other factors at play too.
But since I got a VPN which gives me a port forward number, I rarely get stuck unable to download stuff, and I'm nearly always uploading at my full speed, because others find it easy to connect to me,
As to the freeleech workaround, it's highly likely that the torrent starts once there are a few more leechers because one of them, at least, has port forwarding.
I've been getting frequent reseed requests from the same user for a torrent I no longer have. On closer examination, it was exactly the situation you described. One seeder shown, one leecher - I assume the person requesting the reseed. I decided to join the torrent as a leecher again. Pretty much immediately, I started leeching, and the leecher is leeching from me. It's pretty slow - current estimate to finish is 3+ days - but at least he's getting it.
I'll even put my money where my mouth is. Give me the links to one or two (smallish!) torrents you're having problems with, and I'll join and see if we can get things kickstarted.

@Kevin4fm Thank you so much for explaining the nature of the problem to me! Okay. At least I have practical steps in mind, now. The one I'm really salivating for is this one. If you can help I very much appreciate it, but no worries, if not! The info takes a weight off my mind. https://www.gaytor.rent/details.php?id=PZGcXrbwJolSTeDfYW_7ug

@BannonHarpsi there is a topic here that is meant to help revive torrents in this exact situation: https://community.gaytor.rent/topic/68141/at-risk-torrent-thread-official
whenever you come across a torrent that has very few seeders, you can just drop the link in that topic and wait for a mod to freeleech it, so you can save your own points. it's only for torrents with very few seeders, though.
-
@BannonHarpsi It would seem that one has already been made freeleech while I slept, so there's little point me joining the swarm.
Do you have another example that hasn't been freeleeched, and that can be held off on being made so? Once there are multiple seeders and/or leechers it becomes impossible to test / demonstrate what I've said. If for any reason it doesn't work, and even if it does, there's no reason why it can't be subsequently made freeleech so that others who want it can do so.

@Kevin4fm those mods work fast! Erm. There's this one! https://www.gaytor.rent/details.php?id=lrG0Aa-rx6Z8wnjPqcsg4w

@BannonHarpsi
VERY bizarre. For some reason, this torrent won't add to my qBittorrent. It doesn't give any errors or warnings. "Adds" like normal but doesn't then appear on the torrent list.Ignore that. A restart of qBittorrent cured whatever funniness was going on. I've now added that torrent. I'll check back in a while and see if it has started.
. . . . . A few moments later . . . . . .
I've started to download. QB's estimate is 16 minutes if the speed is maintained. I'm also uploading, I assume to you, though at a much slower rate. I'll continue seeding until you switch from leecher to seeder.

@Kevin4fm You are a Prince!
-
@BannonHarpsi OOh. I see I've reach 1:1 ratio, and there are now three seeders. So you have it, and thinking about it, it didn't even cost me any ratio. Win:Win!

-
@BannonHarpsi Yep having the same problem...have reqested reseed three times, redownloaded the torrent, stopped, started, force start etc., and still stalled. showing 2 seeds, 1 leecher (me)...
I have port forwarding set, don't use VPN, and have not changed any settings anywhere...
Seems to happen with new torrent downloads mainly.... -
@Playmate What's the torrent?
