New site layout and functions

@ianfontinell Check the fetish category. That may not be the threat you think it is.

Is this another misplaced post or did I just not get it?
-
@ianfontinell Pretty sure he meant kicking someone in the balls is seen more as an exciting offer than a threat, in some circles!
-
@Kevin4fm noted, i will reconsider that next time I mean to threaten someone on this site. But rest assured it's pretty much a threat to me

It's definitely a more 'modern' look. Whether you like it or not is a matter of personal taste. I think there are some advantages to the new look, but some disadvantages as well (like the floating headers taking up way too much of my screen when searching, because I need to be zoomed in to read text).

@Gaykai666 to be fair, there's so many changes in terms of functionality, that i am considering creating a changelog with everything to help users configure everything to their preferences. In the user settings there are so many new options to configure virtually anything, including the option to make the search panel sticky (fixed) or static (like the old layout). I use the static one, because I have the same opinion that it takes too much space.

to make the search panel sticky (fixed) or static (like the old layout)
how to make the search panel sticky (fixed) or static (like the old layout)?
-
I have discovered how to fix search bar but the new layout is too large for my monitor display size. How to revert back to old layout?

categ
I didn't see category filter in the new layout. Anyone know where is it? I can't even switch back to old layout.
-
@focker Expand the search area to full (1) then click on "Categories" (2 - except the word is hidden when it's expanded). This shows them all and you can add / remove as required. To the right is "Sub Categories", which works the same way.

-
Thanks man. Now I know why I didn't see it. If you scroll down on this page, that category filter collapses LOL.

And by default it's in compact mode, which hides the filter too.

too complicated to search -
@amicusets At first I thought this is going to take a lot longer to find files, etc etc. Then i went to settings and started to play around with them, and went back and forth, and realized just how much work they've done to customize things for each user. Still getting used to it, but I mean, holy crap, it is all pretty cool.

UI changes on websites can often take some getting used to for long time users but it's very clear how much work has gone in to this redesign, there are tons of tweaks and options for pretty much any thing you'd want.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to the site mods, designers, testers and whoever else was involved.

-
@amicusets Despise? No. There some things I don't like about the list view, but giving it some time before I provide feedback.

too complicated to searchYou can change the default layout of the search page so that it is not all that much different than the old site. To get to it by default, click "Torrents", then click "Detailed" for something that is quite similar to the "new" layout in the old site version, or click on "Compact" to get something quite similar to the "old" search in the old site.
The search bar is a little different, but everything else about the page is almost exactly the same as the old site. There's even things that you can customize if you don't like the defaults to either work the same as, or be better than (depending on your preferences) the way it was in the old site.
It should also be noted that the key differences in the search function is that there are now a bunch more options available such as the ability to use wild cards, as well as the ability to search categories together (ie the torrent has to fall in both categories to appear), as well as the ability to search by relevance.
Most of the time when duplicate torrents would get uploaded, it was because the only way to really search for a torrent was to filter it by order in which they were uploaded, but when torrents were several years old, you often had to dig so deep in the results to find it that the original was more or less buried. With the ability to search by relevance, the torrent you're looking for is actually likely to show up close to the top of the results, even if it is an older torrent.
So yes.. It does take a little getting used to, but there's far more benefit to the new style in my opinion than there ever could have been from the old site.

... as well as the ability to search categories together (ie the torrent has to fall in both categories to appear) ...
Is it an "AND" search? It seems to be "OR" to me, from a quick test. I set 'Category' to "Comics" and "Middle East", and these are two of the results:

It lists anything that falls into both, of course, but also things that fall into only one category or the other. I couldn't see a toggle to specify whether a search should be "AND" or "OR". Given the already complex nature of the search, I wonder if an AND|OR toggle could even be incorporated. @Joker? Although, to be honest, it's pretty great as it is, and probably not worth that extra refinement unless it truly is dead easy!
Edit: Having thought about it for a minute, it must be "OR". You can expand 'Category', untick just a couple, and the new results won't include anything in those unticked categories. If it was "AND", it should give no results. At least, I'm pretty sure no torrent is assigned to every single one of the categories I have ticked!

@Kevin4fm I think you're missing something. Inside the category selector, there's a option called "Match Mode" that can be set to either Any ot All. Any is default, shoes any torrent containing at least one of the selected categories. All on the other hand only show torrents that have all selected categories, which is why in that mode you can only select up to 5 categories to search.
