Security.. no more?

In the county I live, most restaurants subscribed to the wifi censoring "Fortinet"
others, such as Libraries had security that went even further. The wifi would be instantly blocked if you tried using a vpn/proxy. You could not even access youtube!
I don't know why.. but the restaurants dropped Fortinet and got something called SonicNet which allows access to everything.
The libraries have gotten rid of security completely.
I have no idea why. Maybe the security companies wanted too much money for their "service".
