Standards make a culture go.
Especially objective standards - to enjoy this ride you must be at least this honest, at least this capable, at least this self-controlled - so pull yourself together, get skillz etc.
When a culture has enemies, they attack & destroy its standards.
Some enemy of the West figured out that in modern West, the very notion of standards could be re-branded as "white supremacy" - thus destroyed.
