I am watching the live coverage of the coronation as I am typing this.

As a non British, this is the first time I have watch a Royal Coronation even if it is only in yt.

Regardless of their subject's sentiment over King Charles III, I am fascinated in watching this and their sort of mass is not much different from that of a Catholic Mass.

The only difference is, Catholic Church does not allow women to wear hats (in our country at least) while having a Mass.

@kalayaan said in Coronation of King Charles III:

Interesting: Traditionally (going back centuries), women were required to cover their heads in Catholic churches in Europe--either a veil or a hat. That does not seem to be required today, although some guidebooks suggest that female tourists carry a scarf with them to put on during a visit.

I saw part of the coronation, and noticed quite a few women with hats. They seemed to be mostly on the top of the head, if a bit tilted to starboard. At least none of them looked like Boris Johnson's wife a few years ago, whose hat was on the side of her head. I couldn't tell if it was a hat, or an oversized fabric earring. (If I turn up a picture of it, I will post.)

Found the picture. OK, it's not completely on the side of her head, but still rather silly. Perhaps it was an homage to Monty Python.

@kalayaan Anglican is as close to Catholic as it gets. The Anglican Church has Justin Welby - The Archbishop of Canterbury instead of a Pope.

I could not believe how boring the Coronation was. I expected a lot of nice music and pageantry.. but instead it was a lot of music that droned on, and almost no fanfare. It was also interesting that the cameras almost never showed any of the royal family (Edward, Anne, Andrew, William, Kate, Harry) I think I caught a bit of George, who was making weird faces like he was taking meth to stay awake.

The last Corononation was 70 years ago!

Lol @the picture, you shld make ita meme

Looking back now, I remember my mother used to own several intricate lace veil when we attend Sunday Mass, but then Catholic Church became lenient and doesn't require women to wear veil when entering a church

Would you rather a boy runs away with the symbolic globe and scepter, or King Charles III tripped with his robe.

                That would be exciting Lol
