@john32123666 I think that's an extreme reading of the rules.

@ianfontinell said in What video player are you using?:

If you aim to upload videos that are compatible with most people's setups you should make sure your videos are coded in x264 or x265. If you upload videos with other formats that are less popular people will be required to have a set of codecs downloaded to ensure the playback. But in any case, you can advise people to download a codec pack in your torrent descriptions if you are not sure of their encoding format.

            Fair enough. ^^

Is it weird that I'm still using WMP as my main video player and VLC as secondary?

@Kekkaishi if it works for you that's all that matters. I have to use WMP for some .avi files that don't play right in MPC-HC or VLC.

@Kekkaishi VLC offers lots of customization for adjusting video characteristics like brightness, saturation, rotating the image, etc., as well as taking a frame grab. WMP might offer these things, but if so, they're buried in obscure menus.

I like WMP if my focus is on the audio--it has lots of options for tweaking the sound.

@eobox91103 Interesting take, when it's sound focused I very much prefer foobar2000, it's capable of so much audio customization and you can even output everything to a new file, convert stuff and so on.

@eobox91103 I very rarely use customization while playing whatever. I just want a player that works well.

WMP main issue for me is its inabilitiy to display subtitles (.srt) automatically, I need to tweak with the codecs to display them.
Another minor issue is that it supports less video formats, but overall it has a simple UI and it gets the job done

                            VLC I use when:

                            1. as mentioned above, some videos are not supported by WMP
                            2. Use of keyboard shortcuts to fast forward and jump between tracks

I only ever use VLC, it has been reliable for me for years now.

@Neom555 I hate with VLC that when I pause a video and start playing it again the video turns into a garbled mess, like miscolored blocks, for a few seconds. Depends on the video file probably, but it happens in most cases. I often pause videos, so that's an annoyance. At the moment I prefer MPC for that reason.
