      If you ever get an email with the title "you have recieved a postcard from {insert name}" DO NOT open it. Microsoft classes this as the most destructive virus/trojan to date.

      This is not to be confused with the "virtual card for you" hoax from last summer.

      Please see this site for more info;

        Thanks!
        Why would someone send this? Some sort of vendetta?

          From the articles on it, someone is using it to get a swarm of attack bots to do DoS {Denial of Service} attacks.

          Other than the original person{s}, no one is purposely sending it out. It uses your various contact lists to propagate itself.

          This is why everyone needs to get and keep updated their anti virus software and firewalls.

          There was a relatively short lived trojan of the same name last spring that killed the zero sector of your hard drive making it completely unusable as it wiped out the firmware.

              no horrror storries please…

              the zero sector isn't that important, that it cannot be repaired again...

              recovery console->fixboot eg...
              or several professional recovery tools are arround which manage those problems.

              you should more think about the swarm.... he could DDOS our site... 😄

                I'm not a hardcore techie, so I'm just repeating what I've seen on the news pages and other sites about it.

                I'm sure for most users, it would be the death of their computer because they would have no idea how to fix it.

                  The most common reason viruses are created is to "correct" an issue. 85% of viruses do not make it into general population. of the 15% of the "viruses" that make into general pop are done for one of two reasons 1. popularity 2. make money (if I create something that company 123 cant stop you can sell it for a price). this is how car alarms came into existence . hehe

                  If viruses concern you alot than for a few things that will help

                  1. dont do something your not suppose to
                  2. be aware of what you are doing (most issues can be prevented by knowing what you are clicking on.
                  3. dont use IE - use mozilla
                  4. dont use windows - Vista Ultimate is somewhere around 400 dollars - Fedora Core, Ubuntu, etc = free

                  now these are just opinions so please respect them as that for the reason the world turns is that someone else has an opinion that is respected 🙂

                    What issue are they trying to "correct"?!

                    The guy that made the "I Love You" virus wanted to show his ex girlfriend how powerful he was.

                    BTW, the reason virus makers target Windows is because of the sheer numbers that use it.  If everyone switched to another OS, then that would be the target.  Cost has nothing to do with it.

                      hhmmm anybody who doesn't manage their e-mail properly (Open from known senders, manage spam list, etc) go ahead and open things like this all the time. It keeps the tech world in business. lol

                        Hell, I don't even open annoying chain mails from my mom's bf. And I have firewall set to "Paranoid". Enough said.
                        is paranoid lol
