      Hi guys.

Are we still seeding when uTorrent (or similar) is not open? Is there a way to set it to upload/seed more?

      Thanks a bunch.

True, you have to turn on your pc where your utorrent is installed.

So even if you are not log in gtru, your torrents will still be seeding.

You need to have it open to seed. What you can do is to minimize it while you are doing other things with your computer (this is what I normally do). 🙂

if you're still using uTorrent i would stop as they have put in malware in previous versions. i would switch to something like qBittorrent. And yes like others have said you do have to keep the client open if you want to seed/leech

I had used previous versions of uTorrent without problems; the current version (3.5.5) crashes all the time, but when I try to install an older version, my antivirus software blocks it...so maybe I had malware and didn't know it. I'll have to check out qBittorent.

In any event, if one leaves uTorrent running in the background (i.e., minimised), it's a good idea to check it from time to time to see if it's crashed. I don't think it seeds after crashing.

                  uTorrent has a colored past.

You DO NOT want the latest version, nor any of the recent versions. There is a forum post about how to install the "recommended" version. I think there is a link to it in the QTM howto?

                  I personally use qBitTorrent...

Thanks for the information. I did see the post about the "recommended" version of uTorrent, but following those instructions still got me a block from my anti-virus software (Norton 360).

I'll have to give qBitTorrent a try--it seems to get high marks from many people. I don't look forward to setting up all the various options of where to put torrent files, downloads, etc., but it sounds like it will be worth it in the long run.
