Recently, a thread was removed from a post because it had become the focus of "political" comments to do with a major geopolitical conflict. The moderator who removed the posts did so on the grounds that "this is a positive community."

That's a questionable claim to start with, but if there is a policy against 'political' comments it seems to be very selectively applied. Perhaps this is because all comments here are really "political" - this is, whether we like it or not, a political site. Porn is always political, and gay porn is doubly political.

I can see the point of discouraging disruptive or bad-tempered comments (I think the thread concerned was neither of these things). But insisting on a blanket rejection of 'political' comments would actually result in the removal of a very significant proportion of the comments on this site.

At the very least, much more clarity is needed about what is and is not acceptable.

I am curious what that post said. Perhaps you could describe in in "neutral terms" (whatever that means).

The moderator who removed the posts did so on the grounds that "this is a positive community."

This sounds out of character with the only forum moderator I'm aware of, who is filled with negativity, and when called out for a specious argument resorts to caustic insults of other forum participants. There are a couple of other minions/trolls who do the same thing with impunity.

I can see the point of discouraging disruptive or bad-tempered comments (I think the thread concerned was neither of these things).

I fully agree, although their are many toxic comments permitted here.

At the very least, much more clarity is needed about what is and is not acceptable.

I would like to see that, too. Perhaps someone can provide some intelligent clarity here, without resorting to insulting either of us.

You are conflating the Torrent side of the site (which is non-political - and it's in the rules), and the Forum side of the site - which actually has separate staffers (more than one)...

However, even the Forum side has rules that require political discussions to take place in the Politics section - so that people who don't want to read it don't have to!

Ah, OK, that explains it. When I saw the phrase "a thread was removed from a post" it sounded like the forum to me.

I'm still curious what was deleted. Perhaps the OP will resurrect it as a forum thread.

Thank you for demonstrating my point.
