Anyone know how to convert VLC media files to burnable DVD?

It doesn't seem to be an AVI file. Of course, I googled it first and there were some instructions about opening the files in VLC media player, stopping the play, then clicking "media" and converting. It converted something, but not the files I opened, that may be another issue. That's why I asked here. I'm sure someone knows. Thanks though Pacifico.

Fist, you should do two things:

I) Change the file view option to see the file extensions (.avi, .mov, .mp4, .mkv, etc…): Start > Control Panel > Folder Options (in clssic view) > View > uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

II) Install MediaInfo (free software) and in the options activate the shell extentsions. Then you see 3mediaInfo" in the drop down list if you right click on a media file and selecting it, a screen with details of the encoding will open.

In the next step, tell us which container (.mkv, .avi, .mp4 , .mov), which video codec (from MediaInfo) and audio codec (from MediaInfo). You then can as well see if your ConvertX or DVD Flick can handle such input files from their specifications.

If these converter use the Windows decoding of media files befor encoding to DVD format, it coulld already help to install the Haali Media Splitter and fddshow tryouts (one of the latest SVN builts), respectively fddshow MPEG-4 based on them. This should NOT be needed with Windows 7, comming with much improved media file support compared to XP and Vista.

I would personally recommend Nero to do such a thing. In particular, you'd want to look for Nero Vision. If you'd like, I can upload a copy as a torrent. If you do wish me to do so, just say the word and I shall.

I've used Nero before and, while I thank you very much for the offer, it drove me nuts trying to use it. I did look at the file extensions and it is a .bin file.

An internet search shows that DVD decryptor will handle it, which I've had before on this computer (before it crashed and I had to take it to the store to get de-bugged….) Well, now I put DVD decryptor on and it says that there is no ".net framework,......" needs Microsoft service pack 2. So I download that from MS and then I get an error that two of the three downloads "are not supported" by my computer, so the framework was still not installed.

Unless anyone knows why I can't install DVD decryptor (which I again want to stress, I've used that successfully) I guess I'll have to do the Media info thing. But I'm not sure how that is going to help me, since Convert X and DVD Flick already indicate .bin files are NOT a supported format for conversion to burning. THANKS again.

.bin files are typically (small) binary files and it is true they are associated with VLC (on my PC, too). The .bin files I know personally are firmware updates for consumer electronic devices like TV, digital set-top-boxes, DVD player etc. …, they rare not big some MB at most.

As you thing to have downloaded a media file, I assume a movie, it must be another use of .bin files, which is for CD-R images, similar to the more common .ISO. That leads to the following possible solutions:

A/ ImgBurn: A CD/DVD image burning software being able to burn discs from .BIN files. hxxp://www.imgburn.com/ .

B/ CDMage to convert the .bin to ISO. hxxp://www.videohelp.com/download/CDmage1-01-5.exe and then a virtual disc player like Daemon Tools Lite hxxp://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/products/dtLite or WinCDEmu hxxp://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/ to open the file and extract the data/movie files by a drag and drop from the virtual disc drive.

All above mentioned software tools are Freeware

Any idea why DVD Decryptor isn't working (as already outlined previously)? Especially since I already had it on this computer before. Unfortunately taking it to the repair shop after a crash wipes everything off…....

Also I tried IMG burn, converted the file to MPG and Convert X will STILL not convert and burn it. Amazing.

One addition: (old) bin files are also used on CD-Videos (usually in Japan) on CD (video-cd - VCD) and are usually a plain MPEG-1 video file with removed error correction to keep the size as small as possible. That is why this file type is associated with VLC-player. Usually it works to just rename the .bin file to .mpg (I advise though to use a copy instead of the original file).

I use a prog called free studio manager ,it has many different prog with it all free and very easy to use .It has converters and burners try it .
if you have no luck send them to me ,and I,ll try to convert them for you

You may be confusing DVD Decrypter (a defunct program) with DVDFab Decrypter. Both freeware's enabled users to either copy a full disc or just the main movie from a disc (the .vob files) but only the latter program is still available.
